Interesting perspective....a biased game?!...Are there AMD biased games too, or is it that the games coding or texture full rates run better on the better memory bandwidth of AMD cards?

Amazing.

Your innuendo is not appropriate in the technical forums. If you have something to communicate of this nature your choices are (1) pm the intended recipient, or (2) report a post and communicate your message to the mod team.

But publicly implying something of this nature in this venue is not acceptable. (it is a member-callout as well as personal attack by way of ad hominem)

Amazing.

Yeah, it's getting old too. Biased games, low res, almost no OC on the 6970. Some "grudge match".

Interesting you say that MM, however on a forum in NZ, there is a tech who runs a 5970 on a 16x10 19"LCD...yeah, I know!, the claim is that they can play with all the eye candy etc....
So your blanket statement is incorrect, but I agree it not something I would do.....

Who buys a 6970 to game at 1680x1050? How is that even a relevant way of comparing cards?

Lets see the 1920x1200, a resolution which anyone looking to spend around $300 on a graphics card will probably be gaming at. I have 2048x1152 resolution myself.

At that resolution, with these cards, I'd be using 8xAA or perhaps SSAA.

Comparing a stock card to one that is overclocked 200mhz is pretty stupid.

Considering the overclocked card costs $100 less (or more). Yeah it's stupid for the more expensive card.

I think this shows that the 6970 is way overpriced.

Odd, the Newegg GTX 570 prices I see are all over $300 even with $30 rebates. But if you agree it should be $250 then we can agree to agree 🙂

So, I guess we can all agree:

If you can stably overclock a GTX 560 by 25% then at $249 it's a better deal than buying a GTX 570 or Radeon 6970 to run at stock speed.

At what resolution? At what AA levels? Which games?

And if you are OCing the GTX560 by 25%, why wouldn't someone OC the GTX570/6970?

As usual, if money is a concern, you buy what gives you a comfortable gaming experience at your target resolution.

If a cheaper card OCed gives that desired gaming experience, then by all means do it.

At 1680x1050 you will be looking at cards like the 6850/5850/6870/GTX460/GTX470 and some even might be overkill.

For example a 5870 is at least as fast as a GTX560 and you can get it cheaper.

If you play at 1680x1050 you are golden atm - you have a bunch of cards that will offer awsome play and most will be under $200.

I think that the only real loser right now is gtx 570 because people at lower res are going to snag a gtx 560 while people at higher res will lean towards 6900 series or gtx 580. I wouldn't be surprised to see 570 start to drop in price going forwards.

I agree with this. Part of me wants to order that $260 AR 2gb HIS 6950 and be done with it. But another part of me REALLY wants a $300 GTX 570 for 1920x1200 maxed out gaming goodness. Plus I really can't stand ATI's drivers...

Going to sit tight for now I think. The 560 is nice, but I'm looking for a quantum leap change in performance from my overclocked GTX260-216 and I just don't see it happening with this card.

That's why you buy a 2GB 6950, flash it to a 6970, OC the crap out of it, and you have the best solution for the price. Duh?

But then, that's also overkill for 1680. Just buy a 5850 or 460 for cheap, OC them, and call it a day.

The 580 is a lot faster than the 6970, the 570 already costs less. So I guess you agree with me. 😵

No it isn't. Crank up the res and details and they are neck and neck. And looks like the 570 loses by quite a bit, so rightly costs less.

Very true. The Twin Frozr II 6950 hit the egg today.

I don't think the twinfrozr unlocks. It is a custom card. Only the reference cards unlock.

I like the 6970 a lot but it's overclocking headroom is non existent compared to the 580 which is why i'll probably pick it over the amd card

^How much OCing headroom were you expecting?

I myself have taken my 6950 to 1000MHz core @1.3v, and that's with a lower binned 6950. The 6970 would probably hit 1025-1050MHz with voltage upped...I think that's pretty good. Having said that, I wouldn't mind getting a 580, but I just don't want to spend $500 on a card.
