I recently bought a new computer and two days ago it crashed down. Well it was a little bit smoky and it smelled like ****, first I suspected the problem to be the CPU but since my friend tested it and it ran well. Now I want to know wich piece is dead, I highly suspect the motherboard since the power LED is open but the fan isn't starting and I tried to start it with another power supply. Is it possible that is it something else? Maybe the RAM, but the fan would start anyway. I also saw a little white powder beside my MB fan, it maybe only dust but I am not sure since something burned in my case.

Now I'm just too pissed to clearly see this problem and I'd like to know what to do?? I don't want to return all the pieces to find out that it was my power supply that isn't working well.

Anyway here's my rig:

Athlon 1700Xp Retail
Asus A7V-266E
512 Megs of Ram
ATI RADEON 8500
well the rest isn't very useful to know...:|

If your friend tested the CPU after you smelt the burning, I would say it is the mobo.

If it is all new, I would exchange the mobo and the power supply. It is not unlikely that one could have caused the failure of the other.

I wouldn't keep running components that failed immediately. Thats asking for future troubles.

For what it's worth, I've seen the little PC speaker wire smoke because someone(no, not me) hooked it up to the wrong MB connector.

Also, you said you "bout a new computer"......did you buy a system? or just the pieces and put it together yourself?
