grrrrrr, fedex EDIT: no more help from them

I ordered some things from newegg and fedex showed them out for delivery today (a day early, but I'll take it). Tracking information shows it was delivered at 1:39pm and signed for.

I live in an apartment complex and no one was home at this time. I don't recognize the name of the person who signed, but figured it was someone in the apartment office. My wife gets home and I ask her to check the office and see if they have my package. Well, they don't. They also said that no one in the office has the same name as the person who signed for it.

I checked whitepages.com and find someone with the same first initial / last name as the person who signed for it in my zip code and I think they live across the street from me. My wife tries calling her at the number listed, but it's been disconnected.

She calls fedex for me and they said the driver that made the delivery has gone home for the day so they are calling him to see who/where he delivered. She checked with our neighbors and none of them have the package either.

Now I just have to wait for fedex to call me back tonight and see if they figured out what happened. :|

i don't think they should be releasing the package to anyone other than whoever's at your specific address or the front office. That would be pretty dumb of them to do...

this whole signature thing is a big bunch of BS to me.

I mean, FedEx, UPS, etc, whoever, they just allow anyone to sign for a package. There's almost no security in it.

Pay an extra $2 to get signature service, and you can view online who signed for your package (aka, who scribbled some fake name to steal your package...)

doesn't fedex normally only leave a package with someone else if you specifically tell them to?

i know when i lived with my parents they wouldn't even leave the package on our porch unless i called them and told to do so in the future.
i can understand leaving it with the apartment office, but not with a neighbor.

there isn't a signature proof available yet and i have to wait 48 hours to one to be available. :|

Better than DHL's signature requirement. Look at who signed for my package today, which was specified as needing an adult signature:

LD FD -3340 10TH AVE

That sucks,if you don't live that far from the FedEx center just have them hold packages there. Don't have to wait on the truck or risk having it ripped off, just go in first thing and pick em up.

They did the exact same thing for me, except I had CALLED THEM IN ADVANCE and stated I would not be there to receive the package and tried to reschedule. They delivered it anyway, and its gone. Now they have to see if it was their fault!

why has ATOT become a "complain about my shipping service" board?

last time i checked this was "Off Topic".

besides i would much rather see a topic like this instead of "OMGWTFBBG a girl looked at me today she must want me"

I wonder if they can drop it off at Kinkos for you to pick up if it happens to be closer.

that's not a bad idea. There is a kinko's less than 1/4 mile up the road.

<First paste of my rant>

It's funny, I was just complaining at work about the delivery services (Fedex, UPS, DHL) all having their heads up their butts this time of year.

Coupled with the fact that I live in an apartment. With an apartment office that takes and signs for packages, but only if the driver takes it there (About 50 feet away from my building).

They are wildly inconsistent, which is what bothers me. They have all left valuables outside the apartment door now, fedex sometimes takes things to the office, or they just take them away. I've had to drive down to the airport to pick my stuff up, and had the peckerwood fedex guy leave a digital camera outside the apartment 2 weeks ago and leave the note saying authorized to drop off w/o signature. Fvckhead took away my note asking to please leave at apt. office.

Today UPS missed me by about 1/2 hour and didn't leave the laptop sitting outside the apartment(thank God), but they didn't take it to the office either.

They'll try again tomorrow. Probably in the 1 1/2 hours that the apartment will be unoccupied. Fvckers. I think I'm gonna cut and paste this into the like 5 different shipping rant threads I have open in tabs....

Oh....good luck on Fedex getting their heads out of their rears.

well, we got a call from the center manager who said she can't get in touch with the driver tonight so we will have to wait until after 9am tomorrow to get an update.

fortunately they have been very nice and helpful in trying to track down the package. I have a copy of the signature of the person who signed for it, but they only signed first initial, last name so it doesn't really help me.

can we start a petition for this? i had to drive 12 miles to my 'nearest' shipping outlet to pick up my hp printer yesterday. and then wait an hour for the driver to finish his route. kinko's is 2 miles away from me.

and the final verdict....

FedEx manager tried this morning to get the driver to come in and work with them to track down my package, but he wouldn't return calls or pages. They finally get him on the phone and he "doesn't remember" where he delivered it or who signed for it (not even general area or whether it was a man or woman).

A few hours later the manager finally sits down with the driver and what do you know he starts remembering things. He said he thinks he delivered it to another apartment in the complex (same number, completely different street name). My apartment office calls the people that live there and they don't answer. However, they don't have the same last name as the person that signed for it. Someone else in another apartment does, but they aren't home either.

FedEx basically says that's all they can/will do and will just refund my money in 2 weeks and I need to call newegg and have them reship everything. Newegg tells me that they will reship everything once they file a claim and are reimbursed (1-2 weeks) or I can reorder everything and have it shipped now, but my credit card will have both charges until one is removed.

I check newegg and the price on two of the items I ordered have gone up since I ordered and one item isn't even in stock right now.

I'm considering calling the manager at FedEx back and seeing what I can do to get this driver fired. I under stand that people make mistakes and that's fine. What's not ok is handing over a package to someone that doesn't even live at the address on the package or have the same last name as the person on the package. As well as not responding to multiple attempts from your supervisor to contact you to try and help a customer. Not to mention that with the lack of willingness to help and his sudden ability to remember things once his supervisor sits him down, I wouldn't be surprised if he just kept the package himself.

So not only is he not doing his job properly, but he's apparently illiterate.

Unfortunately newegg only ships using FedEx because I sure as hell don't want this person delivering another package to someone else.
