Maybe they do, maybe they don't. Doesnt change the fact that we are not a corporation. It's mildly insulting to refer to the Marine Corps as a "corp."

Uhh, you have to or you go to jail.

Registration is the law. A man who fails to register may, if prosecuted and convicted, face a fine of up to $250,000 and/or a prison term of up to five years.

If the tone of his post had been critical, you might have had a point, but it was clearly a typo.

Yes, I know we are a "CORPS", I also know there are "well rounded" Marines and some "twitchy" Marines. It's the twitchy ones that make the rest of the corp look bad. Sometimes the NCO's and CO's don't restrain or retrain the Marines that need it most and sometimes the wacky ones just get shuffled from post to post just like the civvies do.

I merely suggested to the OP that he follow up on this till the desired result is achieved.

get every bit of hard evidence you can find on the recruiters activities with regard to your son, get affidavits if you can, then file a complaint with the Marine Corp or JAG.

I can understand having a gung ho recruiter but having one sabotage someones stated future is not tolerable.

Blunc, we are not a corporation. We are a CORPS. I hope to god you didn't serve and somehow miss that.

What's funny is that I already did my 4+4 and i STILL get called by recruiters lol. Only they're trying to get me BACK. Fortunately, they don't press that hard when they know you're prior service because you know the deal already, and assuming you're making way more than anything they can promise you, it's a pretty hard sell on their part. And that's even considering the fact that part of me would love to go back because i miss it.

As to the OP, that's strange that the recruiter would do that. I did a short stint with a recruiting unit while in the Marines and it was a VERY different experience. When kids said firmly no, we were advised to move on because otherwise we were wasting time that could have been better spent on someone who was more likely to sign up. We certainly didn't pull bs like this... if you think about it, how would this EVER turn out well for him? Does he really think that the kid won't find out, or that he'll change his mind if he has to wait one semester?

Worse, if he DID get caught, recruiting commands tend not to appreciate this kind of negative press...

Something doesnt seem right.

that makes me want to purposefully spell corps incorrectly, just because you're willing to get upset that someone accidentally left 1 letter out of a word.

I guess I should put in my two cents.

Am currently going to school on my GI Bill and Navy College Fund. Grand total of 40 thousand dollars thanks to the terms of the Navy Nuke Program back in 1997. I am very grateful for it. Having said that, there is no way in hell I'd join today. Also, there is a very good chance Obama will trim the benefits for veterans later this year and that will probably include college stuff.

40k gets you 1 year at NYU.

fortunately being able to read and write is not a marine requirement. :)

I really wouldn't want to join the marine corp now. The marine corp sounds like a terrible organization full of grumpy pricks. How could the marine corp let a marine corp corp member behave in such a way to make the marine corp look bad if the marine corp is supposed to be a good organization of marine corp corp members?

First, I doubt they'd take you...I don't think you fit the description. "A Few GOOD MEN."

Next, your post reminds me of the fucking "morans" who call it the Marine Core.

Yeah, I had this one recruiter who would call me every morning at 8, even though I had told him multiple times I wasn't interested and that I was already accepeted into the college that I was planning on going to. Fast foward to today, sophomore in college, he still calls every month or so.
