Grrrr - Comcast HD DVR acting up. HDMI fail.

Seems like the failboat arrived at my house.
I had a SA 4250 HD box while waiting for a SA 8300 HD DVR to arrive. It finally came and I got home hooking it up with HDMI just like I did with the 4250.

Epic fail - No audio or video with HDMI. :disgust:

Anyone have the same problem? I called and will go and swap it out in the next few days but I'm just wondering if there's something I can do now.

Yeah, their service and equipment is pretty much garbage.
Try turning it on by pressing the info and guide buttons at the same time.
This will boot it into setup mode.
May help a bit, but it's a long shot.

Already did that. When HDMI is working there should be an option in the regular menu, picture options or whetever it is called. It's the menu with Upconver2-1, Upconvert-2 and Pass-Through and so on. The DVI-HDMI option is missing.

Fuck

Do you have a Samsung TV by any chance? There is a known issue with HDMI handshaking between some HD cable boxes (including the 8300HD) and Samsung sets. Sadly I speak from experience. The fix I've heard about is to set the box up using component, then plug in the HDMI cable. I run everything through a receiver and it's a pain to get back there so I finally just resolved to use component rather than HDMI for my 8300HD - the image quality is indistinguishable to my eyes.

Yes I do have a Samsung. It would really suck to have to use component since one input on the TV is used by the DVD and the other by another device. I do NOT have a receiver yet.

Why wouldn't the 8300 work when the 4250 did work without any problems!?
How will using Component make HDMI suddenly work?

thx!

Again, as I recall you just have to initially set the box up using component, then you can switch to HDMI. Try googling the error message you get (I don't remember the specific verbiage) along with Samsung and 8300hd and you will find info about this. I used to have my 8300HD hooked up by HDMI to my Denon receiver, and another HDMI cable to my Samsung HLR5067W and it worked fine - it stopped working when I flashed the firmware in the receiver and I researched this problem a couple of months ago.

I don't get anything.
When I jiggle the HDMI cable for a while the screen says 'YrPxxxx (component input) copy protected'.
When I switch to HDMI it says 'no signal check cable' or something like that.

What a piece of junk. I looked forward to using HDMI and getting away from cable clutter.
