Grrr, there are only 3 handguns chambered in 10mm that are legal for sale in CA....

 What the hell makes a Wilson Elite Professional chambered in .45 ACP any fucking different than a Wilson Elite Professional chambered in 10mm? Stupid laws that make no sense whatsoever FTMFL...:|

I have a choice between 5 different flavors of the Glock 20/29, two different Kimber models, and a Smith & Wesson 610-3 revolver. That's it.

10mm has much more knock down power behind the round. I own a G20 and my father carries a G29 and both are very nice handguns.

1mm more?

1mm more bullet diameter, 6mm more case lenght, and about 80 grains more bullet weight.

This adds up to a heavier bullet travelling a good bit faster.

That's like asking what the advantage is of the 9mm over .32 ACP, mainly larger bullet and higher velocities.

The two are light years apart. Far more than the 1mm numerical difference. The standard 9mm load of a 115 gr JHP of FMJ at 1200 fps or so. 9mm's can run from 90 gr up to 147 grains. 950-1400 fps.

10mm is a larger round with a standard load of a subsonic 180 grain JHP @ 1000 fps is designed to replicate one of the better .45 ACP loadings. The 10mm can be loaded with bullets as light as 135 gr @1500+ fps up to 180 gr JHP's @ 1300 fps. With that load it will exceed .357 magnum capabilities and approach many .41 mag loads.

I own a couple .45 ACPs and would like to add a 10mm to my collection. I was looking at various handguns in that caliber but was disappointed to see that there are very few options. Also, the store I went in during lunch had no 10mm ammo in stock...that might be a consideration too.

Yes, and apparently 10mm must make people deader than .45acp. I agree, OP, Cali has retarded gun laws.

weird, I was at the SHOT show in vegas and didn't notice any 10mm handgun. Granted, I was particularly looking for one, so I may have missed it. Except Glock, I visited all major manufacturer (HK, SW, Colt, Beretta, Kimber, SIG....)

Can you get a used Bren or Colt Delta Elite?

Shot 'em both, they're wunnerful.

Or were you talkin' about the sissified 10, the 40 S&W? :D

See the reason you are limited is that Kommifornia only allows the sale of hand guns that are on a specific list and those gun all have some common features like;
1. Mag disconnect (so the gun can not fire without a magazine)
2. no larger than a 10rnd magazine

I'd love to pick up a Colt Delta Elite.

No, I'm not talking about the .40 S&W.

You mean the .40 Short and Weak???

I actually like the .40 over 9 or .45. I'm am currently on the hunt for a .40SW 1911 or a conversion for my current 1911

I'd definitely take a .40 over a 9mm but why over .45?

If I need serious stopping power I can always rely on my trusty S&W model 629 w/8" barrel. ;) I would like to have a 1911 based 10mm though. Maybe it will have to be a Kimber...or for about $600 less, the Glock 20 (not a 1911 obviously).

I guess I think 10mm, .40 S&W, .357 Sig and .45 GAP are the answers to questions nobody ever asked (or at least should have asked). A +P 9mm JHP is a pretty powerful round, and any number of .45ACP rounds offer excellent ballistic performance. I guess I don't see the percentage in having several intermediate calibers whose ammo is relatively scarce. I will give 10mm some credit - it is capable of being a better hunting round than other semi-automatic pistol rounds, but other than that I don't really see the point.

Well, it's a much flatter shooting round than the .45 ACP so at longer distances you don't have to compensate as much for drop. I guess I'll go shoot one and see if I like it...if I can find a place that rents it of course. I bet the range near Camp Pendleton has a 10mm gun I can shoot.

10mm has more powder (velocity) and is smaller in diameter... which means more penetration.
I have been researching different rounds lately...

Maybe they banned it because it goes through more stuff like walls to accidentally kill people when you're trying to self-defend? I dunno

Oh believe me, there is no shortage of handguns for sale despite the fact there are only 3 different models available in this particular caliber.
