Received a friendly message from Earthlink CEO today telling me that my unlimited dial up monthly fee is going up $2! I'm thinking of switching, but Earthlink has been so reliable. Maybe I should just eat the extra cost. Bah!

Still--the Internet is the cheapest (and most addictive) form of entertainment?

I haven't had any problems with earthlink either. I guess I'll check my email when I get home.:(

Yeah, $6 a lap dance is a killer deal.

Guys, expect internet service to go up in price everywhere. Blame it on AOL Users. If there was a huge uproar about the recent cost increase at AOL from their users, the rest of the ISPs wouldn't follow suit. But AOLers seem content to take it [hard].

Not sure if cable/dsl service will go up or not. It's possible, b/c they've been aiming for 2x the cost of dialup. I wouldn't be surprised to see a rate hike for RR customers, especially since their owend by AOL now. And if RR raises rates, the other companys will almost surly follow suit.

I love how aol is saying the $2 increase is nessecary because of operating costs. I worked at an ISP with ~500 customers, paying at most 19.95/month, and some web hosting customers paying around the same. We were turning a profit. Nothing spectacular, but if scaled to the level of AOL, they'd be making plenty of money. This $2 a month is mostly profit right in their pockets (there's some inflation, but not much)

Earthlink just raised their prices here too :|

<< Dear EarthLink Subscriber,

We are raising the monthly price for our basic, unlimited dial-up
Internet service. The price increase of $2.00 per month will go into
effect July 2, 2001 for all new subscribers and August 1, 2001 for
EarthLink's current customers.

We have added some additional features to this service plan. While you
currently have just one email address included, you will soon have
seven more, for a total of eight email addresses on each account. Also
we will add more webspace to many of your accounts to bring everyone up
to at least 10MB.

We do offer a one-year, prepay option. If you pay up front for a year
of service, your monthly rate will effectively be $19.95 for the next
12 months. To do this, please reply to this email with the word
"prepay" in the subject line, or call one of our Customer Service
representatives at 1-800-890-6356.

Thank you for being our customer. We are committed to working hard
every day to bring you the best service in the business.

Sincerely,

Garry Betty, Chief Executive Officer
Mike McQuary, President

EarthLink. The #1 provider of the real Internet.

Earthlink DSL went up $10 just recently, but it is still the best alternative in my area, so I am sticking with them

You just need to find an ISP that suits you - I used to be an AOHELL user but then a friend told me about a local isp - $9.95 a month for unlimited access. I missed AOHELL but now I realize what a waste of money AOHELL was. (Not to mention slow and problematic)
