Grrr, my Duron won't unlock.

I did the pencil trick with a .5mm mechanical pencil, covering the L1 bridges completely in lead while still having each one seperated. I used a magnifying glass which made that easier. I've gotten it to unlock for a few minutes 2 out of the 3 times I've tried (the other time it didn't unlock at all) but it doesn't last. I reboot the computer after maybe 10 to 20 minutes and it'll be back to the original multiplyer. Any tips for me? And does anyone know what stores might carry a conductive pen? I looked in my local radio shack and they didn't have any.

Try a good ol yellow wood pencil. Lead may be a tad more conductive if u can be creful and not overlap.

Read the AMD overclockers guide yet? I have seen a friend use an art type pencil to unlock his, said #2 lead wasn't good enough. Don't remember the exact pencil though. good luck

lol
either read up on the net, and buy a quality pencil to do it with, or buy a conductive pen. Personally, I use a conductive pen, make sure it works, then i cover the bridges in clear nail polish to help prevent scratching the homemade traces, etc. I have a 600 I unlocked last fall thats still running just fine at 900.

Or you can also use a Rear Window Grid Repair Kit (for Cars), and put the conductive substance over the bridges.

man i just used a regular mechanical pencil...worked all the time..haven't redid it since...been about 5 months...

just be careful with it...make sure the lines don't touch...color within the lines!!! and overlap a pretty good amount to make sure ...

make sure that all of the lines go STRAIGHT ACROSS and they dont touch each other .. or you will damage the CPU (i think)... good luck

I tried doing this with a .5mm lead pencil but it didn't work. Instead, since I have a KT7E, I just bumped the FSP to 140 and the vCore to 1.85 and did a D700 to 980.

I had the same problem with a PC I built for a friend. He bought a Duron 750 but didn't mind trying for some free speed. I took the processor out 5 or 6 times, cleaned the bridges, and tried connecting them again with different pencils. Nothing worked, until I bought a conductive pen.

On the other hand, my own D700 has been running for almost a year at 1000 (10X100). It only took one try to unlock it with a pencil, and I didn't put anything over the bridges to protect them. I think I used HB lead.

BTW, yellow #2 pencils don't have lead in them. They have graphite, just like their mechanical siblings. It's pretty difficult to connect bridges with them.

I bought a conductive pen from here:

Good luck!

I had my local radio shack order me a conductive pen, sent it right my house. Pen was $8.95 plus shipping, a couple bucks I think. Worked great on a duron 800.
