tell your wife to get back in the kitchen

return the wallet but i would, as suggested, send it back in an unmarked envelope.

I don't think you should be teaching your son stealing at such a young age. Your wife is wrong. The kid deserves it, however, long term implications on your son are more important.

Be the leader of the family and make the decision.
You know what is right so do the right thing and return
the wallet with all it's contents to the boy.

It's your property. If you don't want the boy there tell him
so and then enforce what you say.

Set a great example for your son. Honesty is something severely lacking these days, get him on the right track early and your son will be a hell of a lot more successful in life if you teach them these values to make them a strong person early on. Your wife is right, just give the wallet back regardless of what this other little prick did. As someone else mentioned, it may teach that kid a lesson as well, you never know.

2000 peso's isn't worth turning your son into a dishonest person. That's a rather cheap price.

I think you and your son should return it face to face to the kids parents and let them decide if he should get the dough back.

But maybe give the boy a little reward for being honest? Kills two birds with one stone, as it were.. Certainly not $171 worth of honest, but a twenty or 40 or so...

Letting your child keep the money is lowering his moral values to the same level as that other brat kid. Make him give it back regardless what that kid has done to yours unless you want your child to be like that.

Question: How did said unsavory kid's wallet wind up in YOUR backyard?

We had gotten a trampoline... apparently he invited himself over with a bunch of other kids..

...You know what, keep the damn wallet. Sheesh.
