I've been trying to get the city to move one of two dumpsters from the alley behind my property. These are shared by all the nearby properties, and apparently the previous owners of this house didn't care. The side-by-side dumpsters overhang the edge of my parking by about 2', and people sometimes put trash next to them in front of my spaces.

Just talked to the trash supervisor, who went to look at the situation. He pretty much said sorry, it sucks but there's nothing we can do...moving the dumpster anywhere else would block someone else. ORLY - maybe that's cause the asshole on the other side made a god damn parking lot. Fucker.

My house is the one with the bing pointer. Closest dumpsters are in red (2x behind my house). Units that use the ones behind my house are in blue.

Haha. There is a parking lot on the other side.

I thought you meant his driveway was just wide, but it's a parking lot.

Get a lawyer? Charge the city a fee for obstructing your parking spaces? Get a property tax break? There has to be a mutually beneficial solution.

Blocking your parking area without giving you anything in return and and saying "Too bad" is absolutely unacceptable.

Good ideas but I'm not sure there is precedence for anything you've mentioned - the alley is city property, I guess it's kind of best effort with dumpster placement. The guy was pretty apologetic actually. He agreed that I had kinda drawn the short straw.

The real fix is when they move to individual cans in a few years.

Fill up the dumpsters every day or so and just keep calling them to come empty it because it smells? Make it cost them ...

is this a housing complex or are these single family homes? If single family homes, why do you have dumpsters instead of trash cans?

All single fam. Dunno why they do it this way, I guess there are plans for cans in the future.

edit: actually the east side is a 5-unit multi fam. The city does not require a multi-fam to have private trash disposal unless they have more than 6 units.

That's why you hire a REAL ESTATE attorney. To get HIS opinion. Yours means nothing. Might as well ask the cat.
And as for the other guy's opinion, he's there to protect the company the city hired to do waste disposal. Not follow the law or anything as mundane as that.
In fact, he may not be aware or be willing to comply with the law as it would involve more work for them.
