Group B rally video from autoblog

Best car video I've seen in awhile. No crappy music or trying to make the cars look faster than they are. Just the glorious sounds of some of the most insane rally cars to ever run a race. Drive them took huge balls, and standing in the middle of the road as they drove by took even bigger ones.

FIA expected to control the power output of Group B cars by lowering the displacement allowed, but with the use of monster turbochargers and anti-lag systems, the manufacturers could produce as much HP as the materials of the time would let them. Tragically, a string of deaths and injuries caused by Group B caused the FIA to crackdown heavily on the group.

Just look how twitchy they are. Totally different ball game from today's WRC vehicles.

Very much so. The current WRC cars are so much more stable and easier to drive. When the front diff failed on Latvala's Focus during Rally Whales this year he had so much trouble controlling the car. Those Group B cars must have been insane to drive. So much power. Made for some amazing racing though.

I got the pleasure of seeing the last fully intact RS200 Evo B-series rally car in person. It was for sale at RUF by my work, it was truly a wicked looking vehicle. Only had a few 'hours' on the thing, no odometer of course. It was still fully kitted for rally, lights, tires, and all. At the time I saw it, I had NO_IDEA how completely batshit insane fast it was. But I do remember the turbo on it was larger than the motor on my lawnmower.

This was the listing, but sadly the pictures are no longer up : http://www.ecarlist.com/cgi-bin/showroom.cgi?mode=show&id=3183&d_id=947

Love it. 200, 300, 400+ hp in a shoe.

The RS200 Evo was tunable to up to 800hp 🙂

"as high as 815 horsepower (608 kW); the most powerful Evolution models can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in just over 2 seconds, depending on gearing."

yeah, I was just reading the specs on those cars. When you have no restriction on boost, that's what happens.
