Grooves in rotor? (no ABS)

i noticed groves in my front rotors. (rear brakes are also disc, but no groves.)

should I be concerned?

edit: talked to my dealership's service mgr. he said he hears it all the time. it's caused by the semi-metalic brake pads. it's normal and nothing to worry about.

any concerns?

There's one groove that may be there for depth gauging. But if there were the only groove, I doubt you'd be asking. Take it to the dealer, tell them to fix it.

Can you pick oranges off them? If so, those are the good kind of groves.

it's not really DANGEROUS, but it does mean you'll want to change your rotors (or at least get them turned, depending on how deep the grooves are) next time you change your pads.

yes, there's only 1 grove.

dude....GROOVE has two o's.

Depth gauging=tells you how thick the rotor's surface is. I've never heard of them putting a groove on rotors for this reason, though...you should be able to just look at the edge, yes?

Sometimes a rotor will have a groove to let the machinists know how deep they can resurface a rotor. When the groove disappears, they're too far.

Just leave it until your pads wear out, then change them both at the same time.
