Grokster 1.5 without spyware? *Solution inside* thanx Elledan

If you have, please explain how you did it.
I tried removing the registry keys and programs with ad-aware but now Grokster won't start, dummy files for everything doesn't work either.

Any suggestions are appreciated

I am looking to figure this out also. If anyone has successfully removed the spyware from the new version of Kazaa, please let me know to do it. Ad aware doesn't work, as mentioned earlier. The spyware is terrible, it hogs system resources.

Thanks,
John

<< Seems to work okay for me, I get no error messages when I run kazaa. >>

But why would one use Kazaa? I've used both Kazaa and Grokster, and I must say that Kazaa is a real ad-whore. Grokster is simply less bloated with stuff you won't need.

Thanks for the help... I tried this using the new version of Kazaa and it seems to work fine. Hopefully without the spyware!

I'm currently using the de-spywareified grokster and it is OK so far, but hardly anyone seems to be sharing files.
Out of nearly 1 million users on-line there are only around 1.5 million files being shared.

I'm sure Morpheus had many more files than that and so far I have done quite a few searches which have yielded no files. 🙁

Well, when Morpheus went down I had about ten files queued up and I didn't know if Grokster could finish those, but I knew for a fact that Kazaa would. I may try Grokster as soon as those files finish downloading. Kazaa isn't that bad if you strip the ads away with the ad-aware and the dummy file.

instructions are the same for kazza except you need to extract CD_CLINT.DLL files into the c:\windows\system folder

bump for others to see as well

Yeah, Grokster doesn't continue downloading Morpheus' queued downloads, but after you've downloaded your stuff, there is no reason to use Kazaa 🙂

Uhh...yes it does.

I transferred about 50 unfinished files from the old morpheus into my grokster folder and they are downloading just fine..

I've avoided installing file sharing programs but now I have just installed Grokster. Thanks Elledan; now i can d/l a few mp3's.

I installed Grokster a couple of hours ago. So far I've tried to download 5 files and Norton has quarenteined (sp) all of them.

X-com, Realplayer, Nero, Partition Magic, and a SNL Jeopardy spoof. It's weird...got a few off Morpheus but very few. Just for the hell of it I played around with all of the options and changed the filter from 'Adult Content' to 'No Filter' and the Search and Traffic buttons greyed out.

Edit: The score now is 11 infected downloads and 0 successful downloads. When I checked Norton it said I have 2 that are infected with VBS.Folder and 9 infected with VBS.Loveletter. Are these popular viruses

Oh, to Hell with it! Score now stands at 16 viruses - 0 successful downloads. All with either the VBS.Folder or VBS.LoveLetter virus. I uninstalled Norton A/V and gunna try to download a different A/V program.
