It's a glorious day. Truly glorious.

In this particular situation, it's like replacing a NVIDIA FX5200 with an NVIDIA 8800GTX

It's overkill. And awesome.

Congratulations! You have officially become an employee of said grocery store, except you aren't getting paid for it!

Hooray!

Just wait til some old woman comes up and you have to wait for 10 minutes while she tries to figure out how to weigh her peaches.

I love self check out, except when someone stupid goes through. It clogs the works like no ones business. Beyond me how it is so complicated. Scan your shit and push the buttons on the screen.

Thing is the grocery store isn't even that big. And there's six stations. Muahaha.

I am a happy shelled crustacean.

Self checkout is fine for express checkout where most people have less than 12 items and there is no conveyor, but the store I frequent now has some self checkout with no grocery limits. You scan everything and send it down the conveyor and then after you're all done scanning you have to bag all your stuff. Some people just can't figure out that, yes, I'm done scanning, but you'll have to wait for me to bag my stuff before you can start scanning yours. Otherwise, your stuff will get mixed with my stuff or you'll all of a sudden realize this and not put your stuff on the conveyor which will then prompt the machine to start yelling "item not put in bagging area!"

Self checkout can also be a pain with a lot of fresh produce that doesn't have item numbers on it. Trying to find the right item in their fucked up index can be a pain.

Pretty much my philosophy.
They raise my charges so they can unemploy a couple of people and I can do their job myself. And if theres any problems........???
I guess I just steal what I want.
Causing prices to increase further.
So they can find more fucked up ways to save money.

Oh, yeah, thats fucking glorious.

My posts keep getting fucked, so I'll keep this simple.

I agree that all its really doing is screwing people out of jobs and making the consumer do more work even though prices keep slowly rising.

Other than that, yeah, glorious.

Good luck. I firmly believe they need to have a short training course and a test that needs to be passed before using these things.

Our stupid grocery store turned the self checkouts from express to regular checkouts and turned 2 of the regular checkouts to express. Since the change they haven't had the express lanes open and we now have lines 3-4 deep at all times, even off hours. Time to find a new place to shop.

I love the U Scans, I've probably saved at least a couple thousand dollars by using them.

I shop at a local store. Basically the same prices as the big box stores (except for one or two key items that might be .25 - .75 cents more). The difference? They scan and bag my stuff, PLUS they will actually take it to my car and put it in my trunk. I just ask for drive up service, pull my car up and they load it.

If you live in a bitter cold winter climate, you LOVE this. Then I tip the kid 5 bucks for his effort.

the ones they have at giant are TERRIBLE.

i went in and bought like 4 items and it ended up taking longer than waiting behind somebody in another line.

i bought 2 2 liters of pepsi, a card, and some medicine.

when i bought the card, i put it in the bag, but because it was so light, the machine didnt register it in the bag, and it would not let me continue scanning because of this. so it started blinking and i had to wait for some employee to come over, and then he simply swiped a card.

i then proceed to scan the 2 liters which were fine.

then i get to the medicine and it scans and i go to pay, but it says i need to be age verified because im buying medicine...

so again, it blinks red and some employee with a card comes over and simply swipes the card and it lets me continue.

such a stupid system, whoever the engineer was that designed these things is a moron.

typical American attitude. Expect to have everything done for you.

I hate my fellow patriots. I for one welcome everything being self service. Grocers being largely self service and housing local goods if available too.

well the weight thing is a viable complaint, but it's the same with buying beer. If you swipe beer the employee has to check you.
Otherwise people could buy all the liquor and medicine they want without getting age confirmation.

There is nothing worse in today's brick and mortar stores than self-check out.

my local stop n' shop takes self checkout one step further. They have portable scanners. Once you enter the store, you can swipe your store card and get a portable scanner. Then as you walk around, scan items and put them in your cart/bag. When you're done shopping, go to self checkout aisle and swipe your store card again, and it wirelessly downloads all the info from the portable scanner into the checkout register. Swipe my credit card, and pay. Dont even have to take the items out of the cart and onto the conveyor belt.

This has saved me so much time that I choose to (grocery) shop only this way.

Out sore has Double Coupon day on Wednesdays. However you have to spend a certain amount and can only double like 5 coupons. My wife has it down to a science and just rings up her groceries in chunks so she can double a bunch of coupons. We end up saving 50% of the bill lots of times.
