I'm just starting to track calories again, and I'm worried that I'm going to only beeating chicken breast and rice(made a nice meal though, 1 4oz chicken breast, 1 cup brown rice, and 1 tbsp of BW3's spicy garlic sauce for flave and only another 25 cal)

So what will you always grab when you go to the store?

I usually load up on frozen veggies, a bag of store(kroger) brand broccoli, mixed veggies, carrots, lima beans etc). I keep them on hand so I can always have a large bowl full of veggies ready in the microwave in just a few minutes.

I pretty much always buy store brand unless a name brand is on sale cheaper.

bags of chicken breast.
pork tenderloins, I usually bake or crockpot
ground chicken/pork/turkey/93beef, will usually end up in a beany chili, tacos, or crappy pasta hamburger helper meals
sweet potatoes/yams - dice or cut in half, spray with olive oil, sprinkle with cajun seasoning and bake
shredded cheddar - usually for chili, though if I am hungry I am known to grab a handful and eat directly.
milk, usually half gallon of organic, probably going to full gallons for regular use with protein powder
basic cheap wheat bread
natty smoot/crunchy peanut butter
low sodium tomato soup
low sodium v8
cheapo brown rice

......miller lite

That's about all I can think of without reaching right now. Looking for more foods that are easily healthy and can be worked into a meal easily.

Also curious how much most are spending per month per person at the grocery eating right these days.

Eggs. Rice. Oatmeal. Spaghetti. Sometimes steak. Powdered milk.

Edit: fruits and veggies, too. I like grapes and blueberries.

My diet revolves around eggs, beef, and chicken. I'll often whip up a salad or some rice to go with it.

I never really bought into that Zone or Paleo diet stuff.

Huh? I don't believe saturated fats are bad for you. I believe that the unhealthy habits of America in transitioning to processed carbs and rancid polyunsaturated fats are what's responsible for obesity and high cholesterol.

I've been reading Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes which presents all the evidence for this. He's a research journalist and pretty much has all the research at his disposal.

Bacon = win. Butter = win. Sausage = win. English muffins = sourdough = lower GI than bagel = good for mcmuffin-like concoction. :)

This is what I always buy:

whole wheat or 12-grain bread
turkey breast
pepperjack cheese
honey wheat pretzels
chipotle hummus
brown sugar & cinnamon whole wheat pop tarts
honey nut cheerios
yogurt
honeycrisp apples
baby carrots
bananas
pasta
sauce
chicken
95% lean ground beef

that's basically my diet there, not including when I go out to eat (which is often, lately). I always have a bowl of honey nut cheerios for breakfast, a turkey sandwich with pretzels and hummus, carrot sticks with ranch and a honeycrisp apple for lunch (boring, maybe, but too delicious for deviation very often). Dinner is often pasta with meat sauce or a Mexican variety.

I know this isn't a critique thread, but that seems like a lot of processed food and sugary carbs.

If the furnace is hot enough, anything will burn :p I'm actually not that strict on my diet. I try to eat a lot of fruits and veggies and go whole grain whenever I can but I don't overthink things too much... It's not the healthiest diet, but for sure its a hell of a lot better than the average joe's (or so I like to think...)

Usually buy:
Fruits and Veggies (varies from week to week based on price).
Some type of meat, usually pork or chicken (again based on price)
Milk (1 gallon per week for myself)
Orange Juice (only have a small glass every day, so buy it about once every 3 weeks)
Dry Pasta and Sauce
Maybe a snack food, like a bag of cookies
Whole Wheat Bread (for PB&J)

Other stuff that varies....

Apples
Blueberries
Navel Oranges
Tropicana OJ
Beef Jerky
JIFF Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter
Whole Wheat Bread
Canned Tuna in Water
Light Butter Popcorn

I'm on a college campus, so most of my dietary needs are met by the dining halls/surrounding restaurants. Not the healthiest stuff in the world, but you can make it work.
