Grocery prices in Hawaii

hell, people do daily time share housing on HI, because real estate is so expensive. Groceries are to be expected.

My sister is in Nome, AK for a summer internship. When I was talking to her last night she said the same thing...cereal cost $8 a box, an apple cost $5, bananas were $2/lb! Kinda hard to make people eat nutritious when everything is so expensive!

With those prices, one might as well eat elk or whale blubber.

We experience those prices every year when we go. IIRC, milk was $7.99/gallon last December at the Safeway in Lahaina...ON SALE! Almost everything has to be shipped in, and that adds to the price. Locally grown fruits & veggies aren't usually too bad for price, and TASTE GREAT! We hit a swap meet and/or farmers market every time we go.

Ditto, we were in Napili bay just a little while back.

Honestly, its to be expected. Companies have to compensate for delivery prices somehow. They live out in the middle of the @#%$ing ocean. Until they start manufacturing all of their own goods, they'll continue to see this trend.
