Grocery divider?

Why is it common for people to fetch the divider for the NEXT person so that each person doesn't get their own but rather the person before them places it for them?

Doesn't this go along with the dryer argument. People clean out the lint catcher upon loading clothes for the most part. It's like serving yourself.

I think it's more logical to fetch the divider for yourself rather than for the next person. It seems more like a favor when you're doing it for someone, yet you're not getting your own, so it would make sense if you got yourself one and then you were nice and got the next person their divider, but why is it just that we get it for the next person?

Similarly you could say this is like wiping down the toilet seat for the next person....

Because people are defensive about their stuff.
Thus concludes Crono's lecture on the nature of man. Stay tuned for the next episode.

Who even uses dividers? I don't clean the dryer out until I put clothes inside. My past roommates girlfriend was over and confronted me about leaving lint in the dryer. I was dumbfounded.

Because you dont want ot accidentally pay for someone else's shit, rather than having someone else pay for your shit

I do it if the other person doesn't because it wastes time when the clerk doesn't catch the fact that they are scanning someone else's stuff with mine. So don't worry, even these seemingly altruistic acts are just as selfish as you've come to expect the human race to be.

eh, the people around here just dump on the seat, sometimes they even miss that. It really baffles me.

When I get in line, there is a person that is currently checking out.

The person in front of mine is loading all their stuff on the belt. They already have one divider in front of their stuff.

They usually have a shopping cart behind them for easy unloading. Because of this, and my short stature, I cannot reach the divider thingy without draping my arm all over your groceries.

So out of politeness for anyone behind me, I put the divider down behind my groceries. Because that's what I would want people to do for me.

Unless you're going to push all the other dividers to the end of the belt so that I can put it on the belt myself. But people don't think that far ahead.

Of course this is moot most of the time, because I try to use the self checkout.

I really fucking hate people that don't clean out the lint tray after they use the dryer. Usually I have to pull a whole blanket out of the thing. It's a wonder the building hasn't burnt down because it's obvious people are too stupid to know how to do it.

I equate these things to leaving the responsibility of flushing to the next person after you take a shit.
