grinding buzzing

there is this grindiung or buzzing noise coming from my computer periodically. I opened up my case and i think it is coming from the heatsink fan. It sounds really terrible like metal grinding against a stone or a swarm of bees buzzing. and it happens on and off. i cleaned all the dust and crap out of the HS but it still makes this noise. btw it is a coolermaster hs. anyone have any suggestions on how to fiz this short of getting a new HS??

If you are sure its coming from the heatsink fan and you've cleaned all the dust and cr@p off, theres not much more you can do.

I'd say you need a new one. Perhaps you can get away with just buying a new fan and attaching it to your heatsink, otherwise get a whole new heatsink. If your current one dies you could also be shopping for a new CPU (and even MOBO).

Do you have a fan on your video card?
I changed power supplies and hsf's to correct an intermittant buzz, and completely over looked the poked video card fan.

I always stick my finger in fans to determine which is causing noise. Never hurt myself and have done it to hundreds...but seems there are some on Anandtech who have, see a recent thread.

hmm, i do have a geforce3 ti200 (visiontek xstacy) with a heatsink fan combo on it. but i can almost feel the vibrations and sound coming from the cpu HSF. what could possible be causing this? it sounds as if the fan blades are hitting something as they spin but i dont know what it could be as i have cleaned most of the dust out. funny things is it just happened recently after i installed my seagate barracudaIV 80gig.
