It's just the rub, it's dark is all, and the picture was taken on my camera phone. Tasted perfect :)

Well, to piggyback on your thread, I smoked my first roast last night. That was pretty awesome. Marinated it in oatmeal stout with a little bit of ginger and garlic, came out sweet and spicy. Plus I cooked up a little bit of lamb leg stuffed with garlic and skewered with rosemary sprigs. That was pretty phenomenal. And the whole smoking process couldn't have been easier. A+++, will use again!!!

what kind of rolling paper did you use? lol. sounds good :)

usually at some place decent like Outback or Texas Roadhouse

wtf?

Both grill worse than me, asleep.

That would explain why my first attempting at grilling a steak at home came out light-years better than theirs did ;)

Also, am I the only one that thinks their meat quality sucks? I swear the last time (actually the first time) I had some Outback sirloin it tasted like it was over-tenderized. It just kind of fell apart in my mouth, and not in the ZOMG good steak kind of way.

I once got distracted during grilling and my steak got burnt a bit on the outside like yours. The inside was fantastically juicy though :)

you know...it's moments like this when I step back.

consider how seriously I take certain things...

ponder a wee bit.

then reach the conclusion: hairy monkey men huddled around a sandy fire pit once flamed their recently-slaughtered meat at arms length, either on the ends of pointy sticks or in their fucking bare hands...

despite all of the methods we've employed to improve upon that flavor....our gut has yet to evolve at the same pace as our snobbery. AND, oddly enough, from as long as us hairy monkey people have been enjoying flamed meat, there are still many corners of this earth that have rarely--if not ever--enjoyed such thrills.

....hmmmm. meat.
it
just
tastes
good.

I agree about Outback, but Texas Roadhouse isn't bad for a chain ... had a very good NY strip there just last week in fact.

Of course nothing compares to a top-quality steak cooked at home either on cast-iron or over charcoal.

Looks like your burnt the shit out of it, but congrats on grilling your first time. I can't believe it was your first time ever, that's just crazy talk to me, but still, congrats.

I think I grilled my first streak when I was 11 or 12 on our old charcoal grill. I couldn't understand at first why my dad wouldn't let me throw the meat on there while there was still flames. Many moons later, I enjoy grilling a nice tri-tip during the summer on a not-often-enough basis.
