Will definitely increase ticket sales.. seems we might get the first person to go to the Hall as a Mariner. I don't care about his age and injuries and whatnot, the team is rebuilding so they are going to suck next year anyway.

The return of Ken Griffey Jr. to Seattle, nine years after he departed for Cincinnati, appears to be imminent.

Baseball sources confirmed that talks between the club and Griffey, a free agent, have heated up in recent days. The parties appear to be on course for a one-year contract that could be announced next week, provided Griffey passes a physical examination.

Griffey had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in October to repair partially torn cartilage and meniscus. The Reds' team physician, Timothy Kremchek, has said that he expects Griffey to be fully recovered for the 2009 season.

Griffey is currently in California playing in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament, which will end for him Saturday or Sunday, depending on how his team does. If talks continue to progress, he could come to the Phoenix area for a physical early next week.

Reached in Cincinnati, Griffey's agent, Brian Goldberg, declined to comment other than to acknowledge there are ongoing discussions with the Mariners.

The Mariners have mulled a Griffey signing all winter, but have pursued other options for offensive help. However, when free agent Bobby Abreu reached agreement with the Angels earlier this week, the Mariners reportedly began moving seriously toward reacquiring Griffey, considered the greatest player in club history.

The sides have reportedly begun talking parameters of a contract. The Mariners are approaching their budgeted payroll figure, so there will have to be creativity from both sides to get a deal done.

However, Griffey is motivated to return to Seattle, where he received a hero's welcome when the Reds came through in 2007. He ranks fifth on the all-time home run list with 611.

I don't see where it says what the contract is worth?

I have been suspect of Griffy as well. Would not be surprised to see his name on the 104 list.

This will be awesome. I'll have a reason to go to a game again. I don't really know any of the players anymore. The best part about the M's, between 93 - 1999 was that they were just such awesome people, very involved in the community, always doing commercials and talking to reporters. Even if you weren't an active fan you knew all the first string players simply because they were just nice guys and always out there.

Now, all those assholes ignore the fans and pretend not to speak english. fuckem.

Having watched Griffey from a local high school to the pros; there is no evidence of 'roids. He has gained weight but it certainly isn't bulky muscle. He also doesn't have any of the other typical 'roid associated issues.
He is one of the few recent stars that has never been associated with any illegal/banned/performance-enhancing substance.

Didn't he bulk up about the same as A-Rod did? Besides, a lack of excess bulk does not mean he didn't take PEs, so don't use that as some measuring stick. I think its a testament to Griffey's personality more than anything that he's never been linked to it, but I'd be skeptical that he's been clean his whole career. I like Griffey, but realistically, I think he has, at least at some point, used PEs. He seems like the type of guy that might've been pushed into using them, and then felt guilty so he quit (and perhaps that's why he's had so many issues with injuries and rehabbing them in the latter part of his career).

You know what one of the main benefits of all the PEDs are? You don't get fucking hurt and you heal faster. KGJ has broken, torn, ripped, pulled about every single part of his body.
