I kinda feel bad for him. The guy would have been a first ballot HOF'er if hadn't been hindered by injuries his whole career. He is the best all-around baseball player I have ever seen play.

Anyone thinking he was maybe on 'roids early on and when he stopped his body just broke down from inability to properly deal with the injuries?

always a possibility but looking at his build and that sweet swing I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. Should've never left seattle

I don't think so, he is just a really gifted athlete. He didn't even have the body type of a juicer (e.g. Giambi, McGwire, etc.).

There was talk about him going back to Seattle in the off season.
I imagine this will make a mess out of that.
He's a damn good ball player, it's a shame he's been falling apart forever.

He's human people. When humans age, they're more prone to injuries. Props to him, I'm pretty sure he's the most unlikely personto take roids mainly cause of his pops.

I don't get how someone can be so awesome early in their career, and then bang!, what happened? He was really a fun player to watch in Seattle.

Yeah, I feel kinda sorry for him. :(

you are comparing a perenial injured like Wood to Jr? Jr had an amazing 10 yr run. did Wood ever have anything close to that? has his career even totaled 10 yrs yet?

Yeah, he had 8 HOF years, you're probably right. For some reason I didn't think he did it that long.

Where's my comparison in that 7 word post? He was good early on and now he's being shut down from injuries, obviously he's not as good as Griffey though they play completely different possitions. Following suit doesn't mean he's on the same damn level. Simmer down now..

even this season will count strong for him. it may not have been a best of the best type season but it was a very very strong season.

Jr, in my opinion is a shoein for the HOF. who would you take, Jr or Chipper Jones?

Chipper is a pretty good ballplayer that will not make the HOF.

Bonds was better year after year.
The "Who's the best Player in Baseball?" question was raised year after year when Bonds and Griffey were in their prime and Bonds consistantly won. Bonds is still better.
In my estimation, Bonds was better overall, speed being the difference. He also had the power edge.
Taking the asshole factor into account, I'd have had Griffey on my club long before Bonds.

agreed. bonds was the better player (well, griffey was probably the better fielder).

but, i think that was kind of the point of my post, bonds and mb manny as the only two players i can think of off the top of my head as being better than Griffey during a similar time period (altho manny was many yrs after jr started).

So you're saying he won't make the HOF..? His career is far from over my friend.

i think chipper is thinking of retiring after this season. that's what i was reading on the braves board. he's not the player he was altho he is still very good, too bad he can't play the mets every game.

Griffey will still make the HOF, he was the best player of the 90's.

And Phillies, he owns us no matter who's pitching. :|

hey, i'm a braves fan. i know chipper has been amazing for the braves, but i don't think he was in Griffey's class (during the 90's) or ARod's class of now.

chipper is a 2nd tier superstar.
