I just got my pre-order copy yesterday.

This graphics and race scenery are phenomenal the best I've ever seen and it works perfectly with my Xbox 360 and PC adapter.

I ran it on two machines. The first was my HTPC AMD 4600 X2 with HD3850 256MB @ Ultra 1080 Res and it played perfect. I also ran it on my Gaming machine AMD 4800 X2 with XFX 8800GT 512MB @ Ultra 1050 with Mouse and Keyboard. I would recommend using a Game pad as the M/KB combo didn't work for me.

One thing I regret though is not buying the game using Steam since I have to load the disc for each machine I want to play. But at least I got a free Grid t-shirt for my pre-order.

The game play is similar to most racing games I've played (Gran Tourismo, Ridge Racer), but the good thing about this game is that you don't just race. There is a Japanese style Drift competition mode, Euro Style Racing, and street racing.

Be careful with that simulator statement..those rFactor, Live for Speed and GTR guys will go after you! :p

Grid is arcade all the way and considering the lack of good quality arcade racers on the pc I welcome the game with open arms. Looks great and with a few tweaks here and there with the assists it plays great too.

I ordered the game at gogamer yesterday (38 bones) and of course a few hours later it appears on steam..lol Not a big deal since I bought other games along with Grid but I love the convenience of steam..ah well.

I'm not a console guy, but racers and arcade racers are the only type of game that I prefer to play on a console (like the Gran Turismo and Burnout franchises). I've tried plenty of PC racers over the years, but never found one that gave me the same console feeling and hooked me enough to keep playing.

Is this finally the one?

I'm waiting on a new video card, then I'll give the demo a spin.

I like the game a lot, but there are some obvious AI issues. I usualy race in normal difficulty and have no problem coming in in top 3. Some races, like the 24hr le manche race, even on basic you can't even pass one car and finish last every time I tried.

From the Demo, I know that the AI is ridiculously hard. So I play the game on basic with no assists. When I'm done, I'll replay on harder difficulties.
I want to get that Momo Racing wheel though. This is the game that I think will finally push me to buy it. It a great game all around. Even the 3D menu is gorgeous...welcome change.

Am I the only one that thinks the AI is too hard?

Need For Speed is going to have to come extremely good this year to beat this title. My guess is that they won't. (Sorry EA, please prove me wrong, we need good competition from the game makers so that games will get better. Challenge everything? Challenge GRID).

I like it too, though I can't get my Logitech Wireless Rumblepad 2 to work with it.

Mine works fine.
Try uninstalling then reinstalling the controller drivers.
Let us know if that helps.

I tried out the demo and was impressed enough that I plan on buying it after work today. After the huge letdown that Pro Street was (is anyone really surprised?), I'm hoping to get a few good LAN parties out of this game, since it supports 12 players. My only gripe is the console inspired UI we see all too often these days.

I had no trouble getting first place on the hardest difficulty and only traction control enabled ( I use a gamepad - N64 controller w/ adaptoid)

Maybe I should try out that traction control then...:D

Thing is I usually try to play without any driver assistance but I'll give that one a shot.

Thanks.

I'm a little frustrated with the AI in this game as well. I do well on the American and Japanese races, but I suck pretty bad with the European races and I can't even finish the Le Mans race. I'm playing on Basic with all the driving assists on and I still suck.

I have a Logitech rumblepad , I find the controls are far too sensitive, even when set to the least sensitive. My steering is really kinda jerky, maybe I need a steering wheel for this game. I'm also dissapointed that the game didn't just recognise my controller and go with it, I had to create a custom profile and set up the controller.

I don't know if the retail changed this, but turning off bloom made the demo look way better. You have to go into hardware_setting_config.xml in the hardwaresettings folder and turn off postprocess and blur. Even many of the official screenshots of the game don't have bloom.

EA will just buy Codemasters instead of trying to make a better game. Easier to kill the competition than to compete against it no?

edit: I thread jacked my own thread.. sorry ok no more EA bashing back to the accolades.

You can brake really late after the long stretches during the Le Mans race and cut corners since they're still covered in pavement instead of grass, other than that, you don't have to brake too hard during any other corner besides maybe one (where you go uphill and take a somewhat hard right turn, or else you're in the sanded area).

I just have to buy a LMP1 car, all the other classes I can finish Le Mans np. It helps to just pay more attention to the map so you can get ready for the turns.

I just found out yesterday that it helps to turn off the stability control if you have jerky controls, aspecialy on the high speed tracks like Le Mans.

Ok, I'm driving worse than DUI mode in GTA4. I have a controller I set up and like others have whined, the game is hard.

I'll keep working on it. I remember struggling to maintain control in other racing games back in the day and eventually getting the hang of it. I'm sure its the same.

After playing fine for 2 days, all the sudden the game does not want to start anymore, or crashes while playing...WTF!! the codemaster forums are full of complains. Lets hope for good size patch soon.

This game is amazing.

I think it's really designed for a steering wheel though. I had a hard time completing any of the races in the demo, then I finally got a wheel and am able to get 1st place most of the time on normal difficulty with no assists.

GTR2 ftw but I will have to give it a whirl. I agree with the lack of arcade racers besides the ill fated need for speed series.

I love racing games, and for the life of me wouldn't play without a wheel. To all those people that use gamepads\ KB&M.....get yourself a good wheel, it will make a new game out of every driving game you have...period.

Yeah, I think I need a wheel. Any recommendations?
