Grid (Steam version) not working for me

So I got Grid from Steam a few months ago, and so far I've only been able to reach the main menu one time. Every other time the game crashes after the Grid splash image comes up when you start the game. I first tried running it on Vista Ultimate, but that didn't work so I went back to XP, still doesn't work. I'm using onboard sound ("Soundmax integrated Digital HD audio") and a 8800GT with the latest drivers. I keep hearing about how great the game is, but I've never been able to play it.

I do not have any AA or AF modes set to on in the Nvidia control panel, as Codemasters tech support suggested.

Any ideas why I can't get the game running?

P.S. As much as I love Steam, this is a perfect example of why there needs to be refund option (within the first few days of purchase at least).

Check the codemasters forum on GRID.

I agree, would be awsome if steam offered a refund, something like you buy a game, start to download it, 24 hours after the download is finished you can get a refund, nothing after that.
