it's $20 roundtrip from philly to nyc

Pittsburgh. Philly's about 5.5 hours away.. if I make that trip, might as well just drive the extra 1.5 hours to NYC.

For the flying scenario don't forget to add time to get to the airport where you are told to be 1.5 to 2 hours early. That could add 2 to 3 hours.

I would still fly. The last time I went to the bus station (to pick up my Army son) it was nasty.

Amtrak seems to be cheaper then flying. I got between $69-79 each way without discount.

Also with train there is no reaason to there 1 hour early and no extra fees for a bag and so forth.
I rode Amtrak from DC to NewYork city. Plenty of room and was not that bad.

With the job market the way it is and me literally being turned away from menial jobs in Pittsburgh due to "over-qualification," it only makes sense to expand my search.

Maybe you should tone down the resume a bit, then 😛

Greyhound isn't that bad. It's a 7-8 hour trip from my school to home. It's long but it isn't that bad.

edit: $69 round trip? It costs me $69 one-way for a shorter ride. Damn prices in the US are cheap

ah sorry, it'd be $45 each way from pitt, but it'll only take 6.5 hours from gotobus

I absolutely love long rides on a coach, so I'd say bus. Something about seeing the country and the large panoramic windows. Just bring a collapsable batton; lots of weird shit going onboard lately (1 every couple thousand rides, yep...).

The Canadian Greyhound may be cleaner and more polite than the American Greyhound, but you still run the risks of some Highlander wannabe deciding that the time of the Gathering is near and helping himself to your head.

Having taken the American Greyhound on a number of occasions, you should fly, train, rent a car, or bike before you think about busing.

Don't get me wrong, I loved riding the bus in every third world country that I've been in, but in America it's terrible.

Well-- UPDATE:

Ended up convincing a buddy to go with me. Got 4 days/3 nights @ the Westin Hotel (4 star luxury hotel right across the Hudson) in Jersey City + round trip airline tickets to Newark for $282.79 a person. I should be a travel agent.
