Yep, much of the commentary in this thread is just a big fat ad hominem. But then, critical thinking skills are non-existence on the right.

I am still here and plan to be until something kills me off. It’s too late for me (2 kids) but I’d absolutely support my above proposal about a global one child policy. If you want to actually solve the environmental crisis and not just pretend like we are doing so it’s the only solution. It’s the only thing that addresses the root of the problem.

Worldwide population reduction might have had some impact on this, had the whole world started it about 80 years ago. It's way too late for that now.

I wish they would let the poor kid just be a kid. She's being used as a theater prop, convinced her life is over and the end times are upon us. Why do that to a child? What gratification do her parents get out of making the kid miserable?

Your slip is showing

Its too late for everything now tbh. Keeping on popping out babies certainly isn’t going to solve that. No matter what other solutions you come up with it you don’t get population under control the battle is still lost.

I dont think you appreciate the gravity of the situation. She is exactly where she wants and needs to be. Its their time. Time to step it up or step off.

This is the never ending circular arguement from a certain segment of people.

No need for me to stop chewing cow until someone gets population increase under control.
No need to push for electric vehicles when something else is polluting worse.
No need for me to recycle if my neighbor... etc
(And this way, nothing by noone, ever gets started much less done. Good job.)

The ape rationalizing why it doesnt have to change anything at all. Its pretty fucking common and ordinary .. its also not very fucking bright.

How do I know that you've either never sat down and listened to her or that you don't actually understand what shes saying?

The whole "Shes only a kid, ignore her" crap doesn't really work when shes making points and speaking truth to power and the people saying ignore her have nothing.

A girl too young to have any real life perspective with mental issues, the perfect liberal mouth piece for today.

I never said you couldn’t stop doing those things but it won’t solve the climate crisis.

And frick you. When did I attack you? Why be such an jerk all the time, do you talk to people in real life that way? Or more than likely is it just acting tough on the internet? The whole e-tough guy thing is about as sad as it gets.

Reducing human population is a good idea. Hoping half of us are wiped out in a plague is dumb and I’m concerned you are not being honest about you position.

The secret to reducing population lies here

And here

You're absolutely correct. Do you understand how to reduce those fertility rates in shithole countries? By developing those countries.

Do you understand how to develop these countries? It starts with not depleting them of their non-violent, hardworking, and/or skilled citizens and leaving them with their shit citizens.

It's not "by default" that the same will magically happen to undeveloped countries.

But also at the same time - once countries like India DO manage to develop (as one of the few that actually is developing) - guess what? Time to haul in shit tons of energy using things like air conditioning. Naturally when a country develops their KwH will explode. So your plan there isn't exactly smart.

Aircon. True. So solve aircon next. Keep solving problems in front of you and eventually youll make it. Or drop a bomb on those s-countries. Choose wisely though, its a defining moment for your species.

edit : look at the Melinda and Bill Foundation ... if your hammer is innovation .... every problem is a nail.
Thats what we need right now.

I completely agree. But naturally when they develop it's not just air conditioning. It's lights, it's toasters, it's ovens, etc.. etc... They are going to go from 0 kwH usage to 1000+ in each house-hold.

Also as far as "solving" air conditioning... I mean... you're effectively cooling the current hot air. How the hell do you do that more efficiently than we already are?

The first part is poverty reduction which objectively reduces birth rates better than any other viable solution. (See Japan, Europe, and the US minus immigration).

In fact current projections show the rate of population increase is slowing. Absolute population should peak this century. We should hurry that peak along.

You are absolutely right that countries that see poverty reduction will use more energy. But that energy doesn’t have to be fossil fuels. Wind and solar are already competitive. The stupid part would be using coal and oil and making climate change worse.

If we were helping guide the world this direction there would be plenty of business opportunities in helping the third world quality of living improve.

Market sizes and GDPs wouldn’t even have to shrink as population shrinks after the peak thanks to increases in productivity per per worker.

Doesn’t this sound like a better way to a smaller less harmful population than hoping half the population dies?

I agree .. thankfully, many of those utilities we will allready have developed for ourselves. We just need more innovation, faster.
On topic in regards to effective airconditioning... it seems to be a bummer

We should petition Bill Gates to get on that next (after his TerraPower is done..)

I was told that youths were too disengaged, lazy and attached to their phones to do anything meaningful.

*Youth goes out and does something meaningful*

"But we didn't mean that kind of meaningful!"

Yeap. I love too how we're supposed to support our children, tell them to work towards their goals, to knock down walls and to fight what they believe in and who they are and to "be the change they want to see in the world". But then one of them does it - and does it on one of the biggest stages in the world with one of the largest microphones - and they get ridiculed, mocked, threatened, get called a mindless robot, a Nazi, a pawn and a puppet and belittled at every turn by grown adults (and I use that term loosely). All because what the "child" believes in and is fighting for is different than what they believe. These people can fuck right off. They deserve no seat at the table.

The message is critically important.

Having a 15-year old girl berate a world body organization that lacks the power or means to do anything meaningful about the problem makes for a nice sound byte, maybe even a few memes, but that is about it.

There is no global consensus on the lifestyle and societal changes requires to even put a dent in the problem. People recycle their plastic water bottles and think they’re saving the planet. The problem is the bottles themselves.

I think they should start putting embodied carbon labels on every product to raise awareness on consumption.

Hey, remember how you previously lied that you weren't dismissing Thunberg due to her autism? You're dismissing her because of her autism... again.

Feels like Slow, and others freaking out over a teenage girl calling out their bullshit, need to call the Greta Thunberg helpline.

I don't think anyone is angry at her, but upset at the level of indoctrination this poor gril has been subjected too. Still, given her lack of perspective and diagnosed mental issues, she does make for a good liberal spokesperson.

Wow, the alt-assholes are out in force today. Must have been a big propaganda push in the past day or so.

their alt-president is getting impeached and they can't fight it any more. They have to focus on some other thing that they don't understand.

She's a bastion of independent thought compared to you, the Trump drone. And I see you still attacking her as if her autism delegitimizes what she has to say... it doesn't.

I'm curious, have you told your child what you really think? That a person is worthless if they have a mental illness?
