Green vertical lines on display

I recently had a problem where green vertical bars plagued my display. Google searches' consensus was that the memory on the video card is failing. I wanted to check with AT before I go ahead and buy a new ~$110 card, that outperforms my current [then] $400 X1900XT. :frown:

UPDATE: The video card came in, I connected it, powered it on, same problem. I'm thinking it might be the cable. This is bad news.

I agree. It sounds like a video memory problem. How old is your 1900XT?

About 2.5 years old, but I bought it used from someone in FS/FT. Stupid reduced warranties (1 year)...

I don't think it's the monitor, although I haven't tried another one, because it only shows up on pictures, not web pages, unless the background is a picture. It gets really bad when you are looking at large pictures or videos, since you can barely see past the green bars.

Bad video memory is the problem. My brother's 6600GT had the same issues - starts out with bars then as you use more and more of the capabilities of the card the effects get worse.

Bad memory on the video card, or unlikely but possibly a bad connection, try to reseat the card.

I will buy a new video card if RanciclDreamer's second suggestion does not work.

I will try this when I get home.

Sounds like a video card problem, considering you said it only happens with static images really; if it were the monitor it's be on no matter what your viewing.

Before purchasing a new card or anything else, first make sure the card is fully seated in the slot and the cable connection is snug. If that checks out, the video card is on it's way out and it's time for a new one.

I hope it's not the DVI cable, haha. I already purchased the XFX 1900GT w/ COD4 for $125 shipped after MIR. Upon, disconnecting the DVI cable from the card, I realized the grounding metal tab on the side broke off. The other side broke months ago and it did not affect anything. Anyways, when I reseated the card and replugged it, the display shut off completely. The computer is fine and loads XP, but there is literally no display, leading me to think this a video card problem.

Your thoughts?

Thanks
