Green Tea drinkers of ATOT: is it really this magical?

I’m a coffee addict. I used to drink a pot and a half per day. Now it varies depending on how much sleep I got but normally at least a few cups throughout the day.

One thing I’ve been experimenting with the last few days is having coffee in the morning and strictly green tea after lunch. Sometimes matcha, sometimes steeped green tea leaves. And lately I’ve been drinking a lot of it to keep me alert.

However, one thing I’ve noticed is that I’ve become super productive in the afternoon (typically the time I started getting tired and winding down) without the jitters.

I’ve been doing some reading and green tea seems to contain L-Theanine among other things that keep you alert but calm, with the added benefit of weight loss/increased calorie burn.

I’m wondering if I should switch my routine to one cup of coffee in the morning followed by a ton of green tea throughout the day. Right now I need a lot more of it than I did coffee to stay productive but maybe in time that would change.

Any thoughts appreciated!

I just think tea is magical. I drink lot of different teas. Different teas have different benefits. I drink one or two cups of coffee in the morning and then rest of the day drink water and hot tea. I drink lot of hot tea in the evening after dinner. It aids in my digestion and cuts through any grease from dinner meal.

If green tea works for you, keep drinking it. Stuff is great.

Green tea is indeed awesome, white tea as well. I'm a big masala chai fan, but I also drink a lot of green tea.

A friend from Argentina introduced me and few others to yerba mate back in the day. Ever try that? It contains mateine instead of caffeine, which makes you alert but no jitters at all.

Nothing wrong with that. I've been drinking more tea lately myself. I just noticed I had a shit ton of tea stocked, and figured I should whittle it down some. I just got out of the habit of drinking tea. I've been enjoying the addition(usually at night), and as a bonus, it makes my coffee last longer.

never really liked coffee. I have MOSTLY kicked my Coca-Cola addiction by drinking unsweetened iced tea at lunch and dinner. Still get my caffeine fix and I'd feel like garbage/get a headache if I didn't have the tea. So... still an addict, but with less sugar and other garbage. Also lost about 15 lbs in the last couple months, but that's certainly not exclusively from stopping Coke.

Quitting Coca-Cola is one of the better things I did. Don't miss it at all now.

But I need my coffee fix. My new Jura Z6 coffee machine is glorious and makes my day so much better.

Never been able to do coffee myself, though I kinda like the smell at times. I know, I'm weird. Wife drinks enough for the both of us.

I'll break out an occasional ginger beer or root beer, but I stopped soft drinks like Coke a long time ago. I wish I had done it sooner. Noticed an almost immediate improvement in sleep, digestion, energy levels all kinds of stuff. The decision was later affirmed by a friend going to the hospital for severe stomach pain and dizzy spells. Turns out his Diet Pepsi habit (5 or more cans a day) for years pretty much destroyed his stomach. Phosphoric acid overload.

I haven’t! But have heard of it. I’ll give it a shot.

Green tea is great. I LOVE gunpowder green personally. The pearls unfold beautifully as you steep it and whenever I am sick it does a great job of alleviating symptoms for an hour or two. A temperature controlled kettle will make a big difference in flavor.

Bought a temperature controlled kettle the other day! What temp do you use for green?

Been all tea all the time this last year. A little bit of green but mostly chai's - decaf vanilla chai or a caffeinated spiced chai.

My buddy who is a big health nut though, swears by coffee with the Bulletproof Brain Octane oil in it.

Also have a friend who swears by bullet proof. He’s been drinking it for the last 6+ years and seems to be working well for him.

Apparently there is a bulletproof cacao tea. I gotta try it for a few months see if it helps me focus during the day

I wish I had your tolerance.

My body is so shot, I hardly feel caffeine anymore. Same goes for alcohol (just get tired, instead of a good buzz when younger), and weed too (can't reach 8-9 out of 10 anymore).

Green tea is great just to hydrate and keeping yourself warm.

I miss being sensitive to caffeine. This not a humblebrag. It really sucks and I miss it.

I don't remember caffeine ever doing anything for me. I've regularly drank coffee since I was single digits in age.

You can lower and reset your tolerance somewhat if you detox. Basically, you have to quit caffeine and coffee for like 2-3 months. You need to go through withdrawal pain and not crave caffeine. Then you can enjoy coffee and caffeine again. You'll never have your original high but you'll feel caffeine again temporary for short period of time until your body gets used to it again. Your body will adapt much quicker so you want to go slow if you want to savor the feel of caffeine. I drank shitty k-cup coffee for couple weeks when my automatic coffee machine broke. That kind of reset my coffee caffeine tolerance level as I wasn't drinking much coffee. I bought replacement automatic coffee machine and the first 2 days were glorious. I was feeling the caffeine buzz again from drinking real coffee, and I could feel my heart beating again. Lot of the initial buzz have since worn off but I still get nice high from drinking coffee. In fact, all this coffee and caffeine talk is making me want another cup of coffee. I think I will make myself nice Flat White coffee drink to savor while I relax and browse.

I've tried green tea repeatedly, but just don't like it.

I drink coffee quite a lot, and a lot more once I gave up fruit-juice (which I used to drink a lot of, but quit because it's so many calories and the acid destroys your teeth).

Two to three months without coffee and I'd be barking mad. It's also the only bad habit I have left. You know what happens when you run out of things to give up? You DIE.

water coffee and booze. The only liquids I need. I dislike tea. It is so useless. no drugs and not as satiating as water. what's the point?

No doubt about that! :)

Main problem with Coke isn't the caffeine it's the huge quantities of sugar and/or disgusting chemical artificial sweeteners.

I drink both tea and coffee frequently ... my preference is black tea though. Twinings "China-Oolong" most of the time with just a spoon of honey.

You realize even green tea does have some caffeine? Insufficient quantity to stave off a caffeine/coffee withdrawal headache IME though.
