Green Card Renewal

it depends. I sent off my application in Nov 06 and didn't get an "Interview" to renew it till July '08

But you do get some sort of temporary card, don't you? They say renew if its expiring in 6 months, yet you waited what.. 2 years...?

nah no temp card. as long as you are in the system as applied you are ok. it may take them that long for the background check making sure you are not some terrorist I would imagine

i applied online (i believe) and sent some stuff to INS (or it's called CIS now?); waited about a month to setup appointment for paperworks (it's not really an interview) and biometrics at a nearby service center, and immediately afterwards they will grant you a 3-months-extension sticker/label thing to your expiring green card and you can still travel as you will. The new/replacement came in 1 month after.

don't want to give up my german passport ;(

ShamWOW!

was that supposed to make sense? 🙂

Oh I think you know what it means, kraut 😉

if this a remark to the dude on TV that looks like some german techno freak with the headphones. I resent that 🙂

when I did mine before in order to do my citizenship, it took about 3 months for me.

I couldn't apply for my citizenship until I renewed my greencard.

Who says you have to?

You dont have to. I have held my UK and US passports together for over 20 years now. You are allowed to keep dual citizenship, as long as you produce the passport of the country you reside in when traveling.

To answer your original question though, my wife applied for her renewal in November, went in for prints in December, got new GC in january.. She was allowed to travel with the expired GC and the confirmation letter you get in the mail stating that you have applied for a new card.

Not all countries allow dual status son.
