I can't help but think about how many great movies cam from 1999...

1999
Fight Club
The Matrix
American Beauty
The Sixth Sense
The Green Mile
Magnolia
Office Space
Boys Don't Cry
Being John Malkovich
Star Wars Episode I (Despite what some think)
Bicentennial Man
...and so many more.

1994
Pulp Fiction
The Shawshank Redemption
Forrest Gump
Legends of the Fall
Wyatt Earp
Little Women
Maverick
Speed?
The Mask
The Lion King

So, in your opinion, which year was the greatest for movies?

I thought 1999 before clicking on the thread.

Your list is missing Magnolia. :)

My birth year. Not bad. I remember watching Predator when I was young.

Star Wars Episode I
Bicentennial Man
...

Seriously? I can barely watch Ep1 without driving a stake into my eye, and Bicentennial Man was 'cute' but a great movie? Yikes. So far, '87 is kicking ass.

I loved Episode 1, 2, and 3. I really don't get why people have such an issue with it.

Bicentennial Man is a great movie. I watched it just a couple hours ago and it's amazing.

Episode 1 was a kids movie, at the MOST. JarJar Binks? Pod Racing? Metachlorians? You don't know why most people have issues? Compared to the space operas that were the original three, the first three were quite shoddy. However, I did like the second and third much more than the first.

I like all of them too... 3 the most by far, but I enjoy all of them regardless. I rented Episode IV earlier this summer just to watch it again, and man, I don't know how people can praise that one and think the new ones are garbage. Lots of cheesy lines and shoddy acting, I mean I still like it though. One thing that it had going for it was it was quite special for its time, nowdays it's nothing great though.

Anyway, 1999 was a pretty good year. You can add American Pie to that list (pretty funny movie IMO).

1999 also includes Eyes Wide Shut. 3 of my top 10 movies are from 99. I keep hoping to have a great year in movies that will compare to 99, but I don't actually think it will happen again.

2004 had good small budget films, no big movies that I can think of though.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Garden State
Napoleon Dynamite

Are you asking about the year with the largest number of great movies or about the single greatest years in the history of film making? A revolutionary film like Citizen Kane would certainly be worth at least five or six other films generally regarded as great, in terms of advancing the industry.

What do you just go around trolling threads about how Spaceballs sucks? Here's what you said in another recent thread..

Never have. I might if there was a movie bad enough. If Spaceballs was playing, I'd probably walk out on it

You have some serious bad taste in movies if you can't appreciate the hilarity that is Spaceballs. Good day.

Three little movies based on three little books written by a little Englishman (though born in South Africa).
