Greatest World Cup Goals Ever

Maradona's "Hand of God" goal is my favorite for a few reasons.

1. He was offsides.
2. He duped the entire oficiating crew.

He's had a number of brilliant goals but I wouldn't count that one... :|

Actually the selection of videos is missing one goal where he went through half the England team on his way to a goal.... grrr, I hate that coke addict...

Watching Michael Owen take the ball downfield and score 2 minutes after subbing in against Argentina still gives me goosebumps, but that one wasn't included either.

Sad that Pele was given a nod either...

And while I am at it, could Roberto Carlos have hit that ball any harder? I think not.

Even though I don't like the guy, I'd have to go with Maradona's goal against England in which he started a run from the midfield to the post taking down everyone in his way (including the goalie)

Regards

Yeah, I mentioned that one above too. A truly spectactular goal that was the beginning of my hatred for the guy.

This goal is astounding--the one you're all referring to. Listening to the announcer gives me goosebumps.

Maradona

The announcer literally breaks down into tears over it.

Rough translation of the commentary:

Maradona has the ball, two marking him.
He steps on the ball, the genius of international futbol taking off down the right.
Buruchaga looks open.
Still Maradona!
GENIUS! GENIUS! GENIUS! TATATATATA GOOOOOOOOOOL!
I want to cry! Holy God long live futbol!
Gollaaazoo! (means amazing goal) Dieegooo Maradona!
That's to cry for, excuse me.
Maradona in a memorable run, a play of all time, cosmic shot!
What planet did you come from to be able to leave so many English in your trail?
For the country of Argentina to be a clenched fist cheering for Argentina, Argentina 2, England 0, Diegol, Diegol, Diego Armando Maradona, thank you God for futbol, for Maradona, for these tears, for this Argentina 2, England 0.

Don't ever let anyone tell you soccer's not a religion in other countries.

google video has several links to Michael Owen's goal against Argentina, but the quality is low on all of them. Not worth linking to as you can't appreciate his first touch which made the whole thing possible...

I was in Buenos Aires in 86 and let me tell ya, it was CRAZY... Specially when you consider the goal was against England 🙂

Yeah, that Maradona goal has to be the greatest ever.
