Greatest racecar driver of all time ?

deftron

Any type of racing...

I'm going with "Big Daddy" Don Garlits

That guy owned in his prime..
Plus, not only was he a great racer, but a
real innovator for his sport with design

hard to say since there are so many different types of motor-racing and so many different eras.

I'd have to say anyone who attempted to race in Formula One in the 50s - late 70s were brave and skillfull. You needed both to control those cars at high speeds.

As for greatest? I could say Fangio for winning five World Driver Championships in a time when competition was tough and cars were extremely dangerous. I could also say somone like Dan Gurney or Mario Andretti or Stirling Moss who accomplished so many wins in so many different types of racing.

I'm ignoring all hte current drivers simply because their time isn't up yet.

I'd put Andretti up there too ... cause of the cross factor.

But I'd say this is more about thier area of concentration

but then you gotta break it down by eras then too.

Formula One in the 60s is VASTLY different from Formula One today. Same goes for NASCAR, Rallying (remember when they had Group B??), etc.. You can't really compare drivers without looking at their environment.

But I'd definately put people like Dan Gurney, Mario Andretti, Fangio, Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart (not only for his racing abilities, but for what he did outside the track), and Aryton Senna as some of the greatest racing car driver of all time.

I don't believe there can be any one greatest driver.

Switch Schumacher's racing team with Kimi Räikkönen's racing team. Everybody knows it's the fvcking Ferraris that's winning all the damn F1 championships, not the drivers.

Yes because we all know Ferraris were so successful before Schumacher came which explains why they couldn't win a Championship since 1979. That can only mean that they have been intentionally losing for 21 years.

And Schumacher won the championship twice with the Benetton team.
