Everyone hates to hear it, but Counterstrike.

Other than that, I think I had a lot of fun and a lot of moments of awe playing Homeworld.

Yeah I remember that game! It was great. I played online for quite a long time, back when I still had dial-up. I eventually got bored and started cheating though. lol, those were the days.

Leveling characters everyday in Cow Level or CS and then dueling all day long and talking smack. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Ug. I got so sick of Diablo II after a week of playing. I really don't understand the appeal of leveling forever and ever.

My vote would probably go to Fallout.

I'll have to say the Baldur's Gate series.. both 1, Tales of the Sword Coast, 2, and Throne of Baal.. it's one constant story, so I've gotta put it all together. :)

Dune II.

NO questions asked. Its plot and gameplay outclass any RTS to date. Like most old great games, it was designed with gameplay in mind, not just purty graphics.

Kept me addicted for years. Never did finish it will all 3 houses though. When I was really young and first played it, i found mission 5 and 7 hard for most houses. Missle Launchers and Ornithopters were my worst enemy. When I replayed it when I was a little older, probably around 1997, it was challenging and amazingly good fun.

The computer, although they always started with massive forces, never seemed to cheat apart from their random reinforcement drops next to your base early on. Dune2000 and Emperor were poor remakes. They diverted too far from the classic.... probably trying to address some possible balancing issues for multiplayer.

They turned the Siege Tank into Red Alerts artillery for gods sake!!! The equivilent of a Mammoth reduced to a pitiful artillery piece.

To be strictly honest, you CANNOT have a 'THE BEST' game. You can have the best game for a genre but comparing Dune II to Half Life or to Civilisation 1/2 is like comparing apples to pears.

Civlization 2 is probably my favotire of all time. It's the only game that came close to the time I spent playing Everquest (and now Everquest 2)

Single Play: I'm not that far through but Half-Life 2 looks like it will get my vote so far.

Online Play: The original Tribes with the Renegades mod.

It is tough to choose.

Best multiplayer game of all time: SC

Best singleplayer game of all time: FF3 / FF: Tactics

I also enjoyed Thief and WC3.

Well lets see. I would say Everquest but imo last few years it got really boring. But theres always been one game i could load up and have fun with. STARCRAFT. IMO Starcraft is the greatest game of all time. I still play it once in a while. Most of the games that are that old are in the garbage.

Extreme Paintbrawl

*quickly puts on flame suit and runs for cover*

Edit: In all seriousness, my vote goes for Warcraft 2.

Oldskool : Deuteros
Newskool : Fallout series

I'm a FPS guy for most of my gaming time but these were the most amazing games I've ever played.

Wow!

Kingpin is oldschool?

Now if you mentioned

Ali Baba and the 40 Theives - Atari 8-bit
Swashbuckler - Apple
Zork series - PC

that would be oldschool.......

No mention of Shadow Warrior (mutliplayer)? :(
