Greatest PC Game of all time?

What is the greatest game and why? I only want ONE , not greatest GAMES of all time.

I rarely finish games so mine may seem weird, but the PC (any platform really) game that has taken up most of my time is:

Counter Strike! I havent really played much since 1.0 and on...since it went retail. But old school CS was the most fun Ive had with any game ever. The addiction, the social aspect, the clans and clanmatches, being admin to a server, making your own spray logos, building clan websites.....man this game took up alot of my time🙂 Somewhere it lost what was great about it though🙁 I think that has alot to do with the CS community going to sh!t. I somtimes wonder where all the old school CSers went and what they play now.....

So whats the game that has taken most of your time,and made your wife mad because you would never come to bed on time?😉

Diablo II Patch v1.08-1.09

Leveling characters everyday in Cow Level or CS and then dueling all day long and talking smack. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

i have tons of great items on d2 uswest softcore nonladder... runewords etc... dont play d2 anymore.. offer me for them ? rofl

oh and my vote goes for hl2, but honestly I like you play more counterstrike than anything else. hl2 is for me the greatest game but I guess cs is as well because i spend more time on that than any other game. multiplayer never really ends though, so it is somewhat different. I have been owning in source all day today 🙂
 
can't decide diablo2 or starcraft.
like all the games blizzard produced.
also think quake3 was a really good game at the time it came out. 🙂
 
I think the original Deus Ex has demonstrated the best combined design of any game released to date. Everything in that game was done correctly, aside from a couple of out of place sounds and a few quirky animations. The story, the weapons, the gameplay, the variety, the level design, the atmosphere, was all slam-on. However, that is not to say I think it is the best game for pure fun. I simply think it is the best made game to date.
 
i dont like threads like these

candidates for me would be

Doom 2, Cilization 2, warcraft 2, master of orion 2, quake 2, half life 1, and C&C Red Alert 1
 
Planescape: Torment for me. StarCraft would run a close second though, with Baldur's Gate 2 coming in a very close third. Plenty of other titles would hot on their heels though.
 
Earthbound would have to be my alltime favorite game, no doubt about it. Many of the blizz games would come in second, but Earthbound is the most fun I've ever had on a video game, I still bring out my SNES to play every once inawhile, great game.
 
I agree...Counter Strike
It has taken a lot of my time over these past 5+ years. Yes, I'm old school and still playing.
