A golf drama based on the true story of the 1913 US Open, where 20-year-old Francis Ouimet defeated his idol, 1900 US Open champion, Englishman, Harry Vardon.

so no one knows.

strange, usually they give you some idea in the film why they set the title to what they did.

Because it's regarded as the greatest game every played (the game of golf, and in particular this matchup). Excellant flick by the way.

it is. and i actually liked the effects they used such as how the ball travels and when vardon tee's up how he clears all the distractions around him. thought it was a very well done film.

Just watch the movie lest it's impact and cinema/story is lost on you.

I'm not going to ruin 2 hours of plot/character building ruin the last 30 minutes.

i did watch the film. it was ok. not bad.

but again. how does that qualify it as the greatest game ever? i can think of a few tournaments that tiger played that would qualify as better games than the one Oimet played here.

It's the title of a movie. Don't read too much into it.

Or are you one of "those guys" that shouts at the screen - "But wait!!! He couldn't retrive his light saber because it's outside of jedi range!!!!!"

;)

Because it was one of the first (if not the first) monster upsets in modern sports history. A nobody caddy upset one of the most dominant golfers of his era.

Imagine if Phil Mickelson's caddy got a sponsor's exemption to play in the Masters (or whatever) and beat out Tiger Woods in a playoff. That's pretty much what happened.
