If you listent to BLIND from KORN, you will understand the complexity of the rhythm the drummer must follow. It's amazing. I also vote for Travis and Chad from Red Hot Chili Peppers. Great drummers.

If naming, please name BANDS as well for most ppl don't know individual drummer names too well.

Neil Peart for the win.

EDIT : He's the drummer in Rush, for those who didn't know. He switched from matched drumming to traditional. So skilled. ~_~

No one has ever come close to Bonham (Led Zeppelin). Not even close by a mile.

Mike from Dream Theater. Can't think of his last name right now. I think it starts with an M though.

Buddy Rich.

Search for his muppets video. Funny stuff. Should be on drummerworld.com. :)

Yes Neil Peart rocks. (literally). His drumming could be considered a martial art. Likewise, it keeps him fit. :)

EDIT: here

Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer) is the best I've seen in a rock band ... the best I've ever heard was Buddy Rich.

Agreed 100%. I'd put Neil Peart at #2.

Peart's technical skill is simply amazing. Bonzo's genius is harder to describe. I wouldn't call it technical skill. It's more like pure power, energy, and soul. Without him, Zeppelin could never have been the same.

I always thought the drummer from DMB was good. Was always impressed by the wide range of percussion he incorporated, and just really liked the sound of it all combined.

But I'm not very well versed on drummers. I always thought tho, that the complexity "sound" from Metal drummers was partially attributed to the heavy use of double bass pedals. Then again, I haven't listed to Korn since their debut album, much less much other rock.

On a lighter note:

The kid from Drum Line FTW!!!!

Jack DeJohnette, Philly Joe Jones, and Tony Williams. The real drummers are in jazz.
