"Two-and-a-half years ago, we inherited an economy in recession. And then our country was attacked. And we had scandals in corporate America and our nation marched to war, all of which affected the people's confidence. But we acted. We passed tough new laws to hold corporate criminals to account. And to get the economy going again, I have twice led the United States Congress to pass historic tax relief for the American people. "

I told you I was right!!

Why don't you just name your thread . . . Bush/Cheney '04?

Personally, I would say the Bush administration's greatest accomplishment was turning record surpluses into record deficits in record time. Granted, a close second would be the dramatic change in global opinion of our great nation . . . from well-respected to often reviled.

"We as a people must stand united, banding together to tear this nation in two," Bush said. "Much work lies ahead of us: The gap between the rich and the poor may be wide, be there's much more widening left to do. We must squander our nation's hard-won budget surplus on tax breaks for the wealthiest 15 percent. And, on the foreign front, we must find an enemy and defeat it."

Bush according to The Onion: Our Long National Nightmare of Peace and Prosperity Is Finally Over Jan 18, 2001

I can't believe the article was written in January 2001.

"You better believe we're going to mix it up with somebody at some point during my administration," said Bush, who plans a 250 percent boost in military spending. "Unlike my predecessor, I am fully committed to putting soldiers in battle situations. Otherwise, what is the point of even having a military?"

On the economic side, Bush vowed to bring back economic stagnation by implementing substantial tax cuts, which would lead to a recession, which would necessitate a tax hike, which would lead to a drop in consumer spending, which would lead to layoffs, which would deepen the recession even further.

It's almost scary how right The Onion was. :Q

<<Thanks to everyone who supported me while I was gone.>>

Hmmm, were there any?

[YABB]I thought his greatest accomplishment was deflecting any questions about his AWOL/desertion period with "I don't remember."[/YABB]
Seriously, other than the obligatory "I don't remember", has any explanation been given?

Yes, a few weeks into Dubya's precidency The Onion had already seen right through him. All credit to The Onion for that but it also proves what an incredibly shallow figure GWB is.

Heh, the guy is on track to be the first President to loose job during his 4 years since the great depression era, and he still talk about his economy achievement without shame.

The economy is improving.

And as for the deficits, what do you guys expect? We got attacked by terrorists in the middle of a recession, you're naive if you don't think that's going to affect spending. Federalizing airport security workers, the creation of a Homeland Security Department to more effectively protect our lands, as well as a massive influx of money for Defense spending. Then there are the tax cuts (which reduces government revenue). Bush certainly isn't as much for "small government" as I would like him to be, but you know what? I think we've done damned well since 9/11.

The true nature of the entire recession was stemmed from the lack of leadership coming from Bush-lite. His tax cuts have done nothing for the nation as a whole, other than launch the nation into the largest ever deficit. His whole office has been unsupportive to the entire economy from the getgo. Leaving little for those tens of thousands who lost thier job starting just about when he got into office. The bulk and the majority of the tax cuts haven't even gone into effect, so don't even go there. I have to ask if the economy would have taken a nose dive if the other guy, who actually WON the general election would have taken office. Since the majority voted for him, if he felt the nation was on the right course, then the majority wouldn't have stopped spending money. There were nothing but bad news coming out of the whitehouse for the first year he was in office. If he put out another "the country is headed for a recession" one more time!!!! While that is nothing that can be tested there are so many things since then that have gone very badly for the president non-elect. Putting aside the 9/11 incident which may or maynot have been changed. His office has purgered themselves and has done perverse acts of treason against the US. None of which seem to be holding anyone in his office accountable for. They should all be put in jail for treason. Since no one in the whitehouse wants to step forward and save the ship, the ship should sink. He has proven himself little more than a pompus arrogant man, who wants to drive the country to his own needs. When you have the heads of major technology firms going to washington to ask for help, there is a problem. Intel & et al are asking washington for changes in business policy. When he lied about Iraq having WOMD there is a problem. Then I find it a major farce that he climbed on the financial bandwagon with Enron, MCI, etc. What ever happened to all of them. Absolutely nothing when it comes to the MCI folks. So how many people lost everything from cooking the books. The workers did, the ceo's and cfo's still have all of thier ill-gotten gains. There still hasn't been any direct help for those poor souls that lost thier entire IRA, lifes savings, and still can't find a job. He had better go on another vacation while he is at it!! So think again when voting for the poorest non-elect that this country has ever seen. Regan, Bush, and even Clinton were so far ahead of Bush that he can't hold a candle to any of the three. Especially since I would rather see a pervert(Clinton) in office that gives a flying rats pitoot about the country, than one that has no clue whatsoever about anything at all. Bill Clinton left the largest excess in the history of the US and Bush-lite has just piddled it all away. Not to mention that he used Social security like his own piggy bank the week before 9/11.

you have to take in to effect that clinton also inherited a poor economy. ( during election time that '92 that gave him a good lead over bush ) and he improved it.

the economy does go up and down. and it could have just had a slow down in his last year.

i think the major thing that everybody ( the rights ) are forgetting the economy is probably worse off before clinton was in office.

so let me see here dubya is now a fricken hero for not doing anything for the economy for almost 3 years. and my guess the only reason the economy is duing better is that people have stopped listening to dubya and taking things into thier own hands
