I've been thinking too much about movies and stuff lately 🙂 Who do you think is the greatest? I still haven't decided... got a couple candidates but I am sure you all can think of some great ones as well... so let's share?
 
I can't really pick a "greatest" actor. I can pick out two off the top of my head though.

Gregory Peck
Kevin Spacey

Both of them have a wide range and are believable in any role they take.

I'd also say that in a few years Johnny Depp may have enough acting credits under his belt to fall into the above category.

I agree with all of those except connery. He's ok, but I just don't think he's great.

Oh and another vote for Tom Hanks.

Edward Norton certainly has talent. And range. I just don't quite see him as having... dunno... enough experience to really be the greatest. Certainly a damn close runner up though. And he may get there after a few more films.

The problem I have with Sean Connery is the same problem I have with Jimmy Stewart: no matter who he's playing there's always a little bit of him in the character. With the others you've mentioned they all seem to be able to assume any role believably, without a trace of their real-life personas.

Actually, I think that's why I don't pick Ed Norton for my list. He's still got a tiny sliver of his actual personality showing in every role. But it's getting smaller and smaller.
 
Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro as contemporary actors and there are plenty from back in the day, but overall I can't isolate one particular man or woman who is the best.

I like Robert Duvall, but he has 1 mood and 1 way to deliver lines... that joking sort of manner.

My vote would be for Denzel... he can do drama/action like no other. I can't even think of an actress who stands out above others right now.
 
Hard to say, there are so many different types of actor. I, personally, have always had a thing for Cary Grant. Totally dreamy and great comedy actor. But Gegory Peck is a fantastic serious actor.

As for actresses... Meryl Streep springs to mind for talent, but I doubt she will get many votes, as she is not a t!t showing sex symbol 😉. I also think that Cher is incredibly talented is so many areas, even though a lot of her stuff is not to my taste. Most all around talented male.. I would have to pick Will Smith.

I think it is impossible to pick just a few in a time span of our lifetime. If we had to pick the best in the last decade, or the last quarter century, that would be one thing. But the best of 'our time'? My time is longer than most here, and I am partial to older movies.
