I think the reason that you do not see any 1Ghz OCs is that most of the people replying here are not using the 700 Duron. Instead they're using 600 durons. From what I've read, most of the 600s do not go too much above 900 stable. I really don't think that this MB will be the limiting factor. It will be more due to the quality of processor you get.
BTW..I just rread the review you mention and they tested the MB using a 900 Tbird and did not OC it.

I'm thinking of upgrading my P3B-F+Celeron 500 combo by moving to a 800MHz Duron+EP-8KTA+ combo. However, my 256MB generic PC100 RAM is working very well for me right now and I would prefer to keep it if I could. Can Duron work with such memory on this Epox board or is either the mobo or cpu very finicky about RAM (or is pc133 necesssary for Duron)? Ditto for my generic power supply. BTW, I do have 3 fans in my PC but I do not intend to overclock this system. However, it will run rc5 24/7.

Cheers all

got my EP-8KTA+ today, bought it at bunta. It's odd it doesn't have a termistor in between the socket, is the termistor inside the socket A CPUs???????

I'll get my duron 600 by next week, Looking forward to hitting the big gig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the help on chooseing an outstanding OC mobo.

The EP-8KTA+ manual states that this MoBo also supports 83Mhz(12ns), 100Mhz(10ns), 125Mhz(8ns) as well as PC133/VC133 DIMMS. I have 128MB of Crucial PC133, CAS3 RAM and have it running asynchronus to the FSB at 100 + 33Mhz, CAS2 no problem. Really stable! I think this board can tolerate many different types of RAM and run stable. It's just that you will take a performance hit if you use anything less than 133Mhz, CAS2 capable pieces.

I would go ahead and use the generic RAM and PS. Neither the MoBo or Duron are that fussy about the RAM. It's just that you may not get the the most optomized performance. The 800Mhz Duron when compared to the 800Mhz TBird is not as power hungry (23.3 amps vs. 28 amps) due to the smaller amount of transistors on the Duron. So if your PS is at least 250 watts and your system is not overloaded with other power hungry components then it should be able to handle this combo. BTW, AMD Techdocs state that a minimum PS of 150 watts can be used in a lot of applications. Then again, it depends on how loaded the rest of the system is.

just got my 8kta2 in the mail today.

Have not installed it, but it sure does look like
a well done board.

Paid 10 over the cheapest price on pricewatch
but this guy had it in stock as of that day
and noone else did.

Sounds like a smaller shop, but he took my info
over the phone, was very nice, and two days
later, here's the retail board.

I was pleased to see this one came with the optional
second usb cable and ports (my a7v before didn't)

Contact:

Lynn Computer products.

website unknown
but found em on pricewatch.

thanks

BadBrad,

I may not get the most optimized performance but I still think that I will see a substantial speed gain from my Mendocino celeron 500 (not a celermine). Moreover, my Quantum Fireball Plus LM will now be able to go at DMA66 (which might help on rare occasions).

My PS is 250W and I have an LS-120, a CD-ROM, A CD-RW, one HD & one PS fan, one intake fan and one cpu fan. I do not burn on the fly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing. I was just trying to point out that your existing components will work but at a little compromise to a truly optomized system. I of all people like the idea of using as many of my existing components as possible when upgrading. I agree with you though, that you're gonna will see a BIG jump in performance. I know that my 1X Monster Fusion is now my limiting factor and somewhere down the road I will upgrade it. But ya gotta go for the most bang for the buck! Good luck!!

BadBrad,

Don't worry. I took no offense. I just have very limited means and I want something that will keep me happy for about a year or so. In fact, I still am not upgrading my V770 because games are fast enough for me. I am also very content with burning my backup CD-RWs at 4x still. :)

I've got the EP-8KTA2 up and running today....Duron 600 at 900MHz@1.75v. With my IBM ATA100 this thing is fast. As far as the switches, I just use a small long flathead screwdriver to flip them on and off. This is a really nice MB...wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
