no way, payment by paypal? (paypal charges your credit card??? no $5 for creating a paypal account with them?) $25 shipping? oh well... maybe it is hot for some... and aren't the old PII 300's on a 66fsb? I'm assuming these could hit 450 like the celeron 300a's??

Nope, the first PII 300 chips were built on a .35m process which wasn't very overclockable. Later on they were switched to .25m, which overclocked well.

For $125 this seems OK as an obsolete system that would make a good emergency replacement for some other old bones that just died, maybe something for the kids.

But 64MB and 3.2GB and no CD-ROM nor Ethernet nor OS is getting close to the lower limit, these days, sad to say. Memory for DIMMs is very expensive, these days, compared to later generation SDRAM or DDR.

Would have been nice for the seller to specify the particular HP model # .

I have bought a lot of stuff from these guys and they are great for customer service. They basically get off-lease equipment by the truckload. The best thing to do is call and see what is in stock.

No CDROM = the suck. But these PCs probably take SDRAM. SDRAM is still on the inexpensive list, you could max this thing out. Could be a great linux box if you want something to play with.

Even hotter deal. www.teamexcess.com I purchased 6 refurbed Dell Optiplex GXa's (PII 266, 32x,64mb 4.3G, 4mb video 10/100 for $120 ea. shipped a few months back for workstations at work. Just ordered 6 IBM PII 266 basically same configs - NICs (Thank god for the DELL .81 deal :). Their service has been outstanding and the computers are perfect. NO O/S, but do have the CD drive so it is even hotter and NO paypal!

Their price is now $94.99 with $25 shipping.

And it's not just paypal:
MCBIA.COM accepts VISA, MasterCard, Money Order, Cashiers and Personal Checks for all purchases. MCBIA.COM stands behind every product we sell. If we have made an error, we will correct it.

Most likely this is an LX- chipset motherboard. FSB speed is 66Mhz.
Maximum supported processor speed is PII 333Mhz. Some can be
overclocked or tricked (using a very expensive slotket or in
rare cases by replacing the VRM if it is removable) into supporting
faster chips, but if this a HP system, you can forget about those
options.

So figure PII 333 /66 is the best you'll ever do with this system.

Good enough for a router/firewall or surfer box (with more memory), but
not good enough for any A/V use (games, etc.)

Some companies can't afford the latest and greatest. :(

I am looking for similar sites with lease buybacks, etc. I need to purchase about 20 P2 400's or higher for a non-profit org. I have been checking TeamExcess, ComputerGeeks, etc., but can't find enough of one type. If anyone has some links, please PM me.

Thanks
