Ok, I installed an APSI layer... now Nero gives me, SCSI/IDE Error. Can someone who has successfully used Nero under Win2K tell me what I am doing wrong? Installing Adaptec EZ CD Creator as I am writing this.

---rather than start a new thread... original post below---
Have a question, for Nero, when I installed it, it stated that I needed some kind of APSI layer. I just tried burning something with Nero right now and it failed, invalid write state or something? drive state maybe?

I successfully burned with Adaptec under Win2k. So what do I need to do to make Nero burn under Win2k? This APSI layer? Where do I grab it?

Jimmy, since it's adaptec, will it work for all cd-r's and software? What exactly is it anyway? Why does Win2k need it and not Win98? Is the layer installed when Adaptec EZ CD creator installs?

W2K does not include an ASPI layer like Win 98 and Adaptec is not allowing free distribution of it, you'll need to "find" an installable ASPI layer to get burners to function under W2k.

ASPI--Advanced SCSI Programmer's Interface-- a software interface that controls communication between certain hardware devices and software.

You need ForceAspi or some similar program that will install a workable ASPI layer in W2K. Some CDR programs, like EZCD, include it for W2K, most don't. There used to be a site called ForceASPI that offered a program that will install it, but Adaptec shut them down.

Sorry Torminator... I usually do searches, but for some reason, I didn't... was in a rush to go somewhere. So I was thinking ahead (or so I thought) that if I posted something quick before I left, I'd get the answer by the time I came back... of course thanks for the thread though.

Heheh, I even searched on the net for it... forgot to search the forums for it though.
