Great. New build and I already got a prob

Well I updated the bios and removed a temp HDD, thought it was my ears but I was hearing a high pitched constant whine. Not something that happened yesterday. Did just build this a couple days ago though. I rebooted and noticed it's not and stared unplugging stuff since I wasn't sure which part was failing. HDD, case fans and Radeon out but I'm still hearing it. It seems like it's coming near the CPU, maybe some coils? pSU seems just fine though, quiet as a mofo when I placed my ear next to it.

If its the coils should I just RMA it and hope for a better batch? Or is it just fine for a few years and just slap some... Was it silicone sealent on them to silence them?

I was really hoping it wasn't gonna come to that and especially on a weekend. Worried also since Gigabytes boards are getting a lot of reports of such even on the offiical UK forums. Although that's mainly the X58A boards (few P55A ones) and their reaction to this seems shady. Hopefully anotherboard will fix it, really pisses me off...

I've never heard of a motherboard making any kind of noise. Only fans and hard drives.

Try disabling C1E in the bios,its worth a shot.
And it wouldnt hurt to read this and try some of the suggestions even though its mostly about what works with the x58 boards.

Also, are you sure its the mobo?

I had a GTX 280 in my previous rig and it would whine when paired with my Corsair PSU.

I switched the Corsair with a Thermaltake PSU i had in my backup pc and it went away, so what i learned from that was sometimes its just the result a bad "combo" of parts.
I never considered that GTX 280 or the Corsair psu defective, they just didnt like each other.

Well RebateMonger its not a usual mobo problem it seems. Very cheap and shoddy quality ones may make this depending on the capacitors or coils they use. Not something you expect from a Gigabyte board.... Could also be your hearing just can't pick it up. I know Gigabyte techs were having problems when first diagnosing this problem (with the X58 boards) since some of them couldn't pick it up.

Unfortunately MTDEW I tried all those suggestions like disabling C1E, dropping Vcore to 1.2v, disabling C3/C5/C7, disabling the Turbo boost etc. It hasn't done a thing. Tried this even with nothing connected except the motherboard, PSU and the CPU fan. I may try installing the stock cooler (I'm running a Hyper 212+) since that was one last suggestion that was given (no results yet i've heard though).

It seems Corsair and Seasonic PSUs (like mine, actually it's a rebranded Seasonic) are used most often in the trouble cases. Some try different ones like a few different Antec models or Cooler Master ones. Some cases it's gone and some others it's still there or reduced. Really though that's crap. A motherboard shouldn't be so damned sensitive like that. Most of the power supplies used are very good quality ones that are used with other motherboards without a problem.

Really disappointed in the quality of this mobo so far so I'll probably return it and look at a different one. Unfortunately it seems even some ASUS mobos are plagued by this so I may just look at a different manufacturer. Any suggestions for high quality ones? Nothing fancy like MSI's flagship P55 mobo just a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD-like mobo.
