got linked to this site - http://www.museumoftheobvious.com

in addition to being pretty funny, i thought it was one of the best looking flash sites i've seen in a while. any idea on how they got it to look so good? what program do you think they used for the 3d modeling? maya, lightwave? where can i even learn to model like that?

It's a nice site. The exhibits are interesting. I don't know that I would call it one of the best flash sites, but it's well done. The modeling could have been done in 3D Studio, Maya, Blender, or some other program.

Modeling done in most anything - if you want to learn get on your own get a subscription to lynda.com as their modeling tuff is pretty impressive across many programs - a lot of it isnt really flash though - just really good quality FLV files for transitions. Looks like most of it was done with 3d camera work.

Yes, flash is only used to make it interactive.
It doesn't really matter which program THEY used if you want to learn it, because you should just learn the one you feel the most comfortable with. Maya and 3D Studio Max are industry tools and "quite" expensive, Blender, however, is an opensource program and free.

thanks for the help - i'd really learn love to learn how to model like that. i'm leaning towards blender (as i do with most open source things). didn't realize that they were FLVs. what other flash sites do you guys think are some of the best? does they have a weird british butler like the museum of the obvious site?

WTF? The site wasn't interesting and technically I think it's poor. What's the use in a fancy looking web page when 50% of your users leave because they're tired of waiting for loading screens. It's just a fancy battery advertisement. Yawn.

it might be an site for batteries - i thought it was pretty good as sites of that nature go. how do you think it could be better?
