Great idea on how to lose weight!!!

Okay, I tried to lose weight this year but failed. I lost about 10 pounds in the middle of the year but gained it back. I'm still a fatty.

From what I understand, I'm not the only fat slob around here. What we need is more incentive to lose weight. I propose we all make a promise to upload a topless photo of ourselves for everyone to see on Dec 25 2003. I think that we give us the incentive we need to lose weight by next year.

all you really have to do is do a daily run. try to cut back on the fatty foods and eat better. i know its hard because the fatty food and junk food taste so good. trust me, im just starting out my diet and excercise plan. im not obese, but overweight i am.

I did Atkins for about 3-4 weeks to start off and also started exercising so when I went off Atkins, the weight wouldn't just jump right back on. I was up to size 36 in jeans and can now just about fit into my size 32 🙂

Do this plan.

If you follow it to the letter (maybe add one day a week to it) I guarantee you will lose a considerable amount of weight.

I followed that plan and now run four miles, four days a week. I also lift weights four days a week as well.

I changed little about my diet, and actually take in more calories now than I did before. I simply cut fried foods, chips, and cheez-its out of my diet. I replaced the munchies with apples and bananas, and eat more turkey, light ham and tuna sandwiches on Pepperage Farms 9 Grain whole wheat bread for my lunches. Oh, and I only drink water. (I never was much of a soda drinker before)

Dinner is just about anything goes.

I've lost over 25 pounds now, and went from a 35 inch waist to a 31. I no longer disgust myself when I look in the mirror. This was my main motivation. If I didn't like how I looked naked, why would anyone else?

Eat less crap, excersise more.

Calory intake - Calory use = weight gain/loss

Easy equation. Good luck.

Exactly

I don't understand how people can get so confused by that. It's easy to figure out to, but (in today's society) rather hard to do.

Burn off more calories then you consume and you'll lose weight. <---- note the period

It's not entirely that simple. If you simply go into caloric deficit, you'll waste away and lose more muscle than fat, plus, you'll actually lower your metabolism and make losing weight even harder (and end up gaining even more back). That's why doing cardio and keeping your heart rate at it's target zone for more than thirty minutes at least three days a week is so important. That burns significant amounts of fat. And even doing a quick circuit on the weight machines at you local gym or Y using moderate weights three days a week will preserve your muscle mass. This guarantees you'll lose only fat, and not muscle.

Moreover, focusing on exercise rather than calorie deficit will mean you'll keep the weight off longer, and not trigger your body's "starvation mode" to kick in (the cause of "yo-yo" dieting).

Running sucks, find something you enjoy.

Chances are you don't like it because you suck at it. Build yourself with the plan Amused linked to and I am sure you would like it. I used to hate running also, but did that exact plan and have dropped 15 pounds in a month and my energy is through the roof. I look forward to getting up in the morning and running.

Probably because he started doing drugs. 😀

There's a reason why people talk about the "Freshman 15" -- most people end up gaining weight their first year at college.
Then there are some who waste away to nothing.

Moms and Dads out there... make sure you block this URL on Dec 24th. 😛

It seems that it's just the difficulty of commiting to fitness and the work + discipline that it involves. That's the major hurdle. A lot of people never truly commit or have the discipline to follow a plan consistently and exactly. You need a partner (or trainer) that will motivate you if you can't self-motivate.

This was my main motivation. If I didn't like how I looked naked, why would anyone else?

LOL, dat's true... also you'll feel better and feel better about yourself. Good doses of aerobic and resistance training and you'll be able to burn calories standing still like you never did before.
