Great, I think the Fedex Driver ripped me off.

I had a package delivered to me via Fedex Home Delivery yesterday. When the driver dropped it off I had another Fedex Home Delivery package going out so I gave it to the driver when he dropped off my incoming package. This was yesterday at noon. As of right now my tracking status is still at "Shipment information sent to FedEx". It was a $700 package & I have this sinking feeling he kept it for himself. When you think about it there is no way I can prove I gave him the package. If he wants to rip me off all he has to say is "he never gave me a package".

Fedex is supoosed to get back to me on this. They are doing a trace. The lady I talked to said the driver probably got back to the depot after the ground truck left so it wouldnt go out till today. Id think there would have been some sort of arrival scan, though.

Crossing my fingers.

Don't freak out yet sometimes it takes time for them to update. I've had stuff from both FedEx and UPS show up before it has updated from "Shipment Information Received"

So it's been 24 hours and you're panicking already? Settle down. Online tracking information isn't real-time. It's probably sitting at the FedEx warehouse waiting for a departure scan, which sometimes doesn't happen until the evening.

Later that day I shipped another Fedex package which I dropped off at a Kinkos. The tracking on that one has been updated several times already.

Home drivers do not need to return to the DC till the next morning to pick up their packages. So if you gave it to him today, he didnt give it to the Dc till tommorow morning, it then wouldnt go out till tomorrow night/next morning. I'm not sure about arrival scans though.

It happens.

As said earlier, some packages are delivered before it even shows there in in your area. They have countless packages go through every day and sometimes they miss a scan or two.

I've always wondered... what's stopping a driver with a good-perfect track record from spotting an expensive package, keeping it and pretending it got left by the door or it was signed for(with a forged sig), etc?

you could only do it once, i'm sure they would notice a pattern. but someone who does it once is going to be the type of person who will want to do it again.

Thats what I am hoping. I forgot that the HD drivers are ICs.

Since Kinko's is owned by FedEx, the Kinko's employees scanning the package in immediately adds updates on the tracking.
Then the package will be scanned by the driver when it is picked up.

The one you gave the driver may have been set aside and forgotten, if thats the case, I'd guess it'd be found within a couple of days. Or actually sooner because of the trace.

Lots of possibilities... Just keep on FedEx to find the answer.

So OP gave the driver something worth $700 and didn't ask for a receipt or anything? I hope it gets stolen TBH - help teach you a lesson about life.

Is it any different than giving it someone at the counter or in one of the drop boxes? Either you trust people or you dont.

I would never leave a valuable package in a drop box, and the person at the counter will always give you a receipt. Wouldy ou hand them $700 in cash and ask them to make sure it gets to the right person without a receipt?

I don't hope it gets stolen, but I can't help but wonder how sheltered the op was while growing up. $700 package handed to delivery driver? Yeah. No.

That being said, I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Got a call from Fedex. The driver "forgot" about the package & it was sitting in the back of his truck. Its now on its way.

The one thing everyone is missing here is.. how would the driver know whats inside is worth 700$? It's just another box in a sea of boxes for him. I wouldn't worry.
