Disable all the known Suspicious Functions in WindowsXP.
What's a suspicious function?
It's one that automatically sends information out from your computer.
xp-AntiSpy is customizable, but comes with default settings, that are recommended.
Windows XP. Free. 27kB.

Good find, thanks. I also just installed Ad-Aware (Freeware) tonight...AdAware tonight.. and it found a lot of hidden ad B$ and removed it.

These are two great utils!

Thanks again,

Remove all? you mean it uninstalls Windows XP and installs FreeBSD in it's place?

This is an "older" utility, but VERY useful!

Two of the best features are:

1. Disabling QOS (Quality of Service) on your internet connection which consumes about 15% of your bandwidth
2. Disabling ALEXA plugin which records your surfing habits for marketing (invasion of privacy!)

It only consumes 15% of your bandwidth if you have a network card and a hub/router/switch that supports it. Most people don't have these things, so it dosen't use the bandwidth.

QOS isn't always a bad thing... It ensures that the rate of error in transmission is reduced greatly. Of course, I don't think this matters if you just use your bandwidth for mp3s ;)

This doesn't strike me as a very good idea. Ignoring for a moment that we know nothing about the author of this program... I'm not sure about his definition of "suspicious." For instance, his program disables automatic updates, which is a process that regularly queries the windows update site to alert you when critical updates are available. You can disable this feature if you don't want to use it anyway, and besides, I think it's a pretty smart feature (especially considering the rate at which MS issues security patches.)

Plus, this guy doesn't seem terribly informed about how windows works... on his page, he keeps talking about processes that he has "no idea" what they do, but he's disabling them anyway.

To free up the default %20 of bandwidth that QoS reserves you would ENABLE QoS and set the reserved BW to %0. But it only reserves that bandwidth when a program that would request QoS is running, not all the time.

That's how it was explained to me and that's how i'm running it. When i disabled the BW reserve i didn't notice a peak speed increase and www.speedtest.com still showed 2mbit.

I did it many months ago, it is pretty funny:p

There is a user in your list that has the ability to "phone home" to microsoft!
I have no problems getting updates on my own, and I have noticed no problems whatsoever with the O.S..
