China has found some low-tech ways of doing the job, too. After a fire this summer at a Beijing Internet café left 25 people dead, the government shut thousands of Internet cafés nationwide on grounds that they were firetraps.

More than likely just a CCP excuse to keep their people from hearing anything other than their propaganda.

EDIT: What the... this is a 2002 article. Jiang Zemin isn't even their top leader anymore, Hu Jintao is.

i was in china during summer last year and when i tried to access google groups it would never work. after looking around a bit it seemed that the government blocked it :thumbsdown:

seeing things like this makes me sad
