I've never been a fan of Zappa's music, but he was a hell of an advocate for free speech. I only wish he were around today to fight the ridiculous Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act.

It was nothing groundbreaking. He was no great orator, didn't say anything particularly profound, he didn't "own" the other guys as you kids like to say. Obviously the right wing guy is a nutjob and didn't own Frank, either. But this is a shouting match, not the freakin' Gettysburg Address or some Socratic debate. You coulda put Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, or Betty White in that seat and it would've been about the same.
