We are planning a ~10 day trip to Great Britain this summer.
We are flying in to London and staying with friends for 4 days.
We want to leave out of Edinburgh, because flights are cheap from there and we want to see it.

That leaves ~6 days to see the rest of Great Britain.
Also give advice on cities or sights to skip.

Give me your thoughts!!! Thanks for any suggestions!

Lacock is cool.
The Housesteads Roman fort on Hadrian's Wall is worth seeing and that area of England has spectacular scenery.
The Salisbury Plain is also worth seeing (it's more than just Stonehedge).

When in summer are you traveling? Doing a similar itinerary in late June/early July. Edinburgh, Newcastle (with some day trips from there to York and Durham), and finally London. Seriously, if you're doing London to Edinburgh by train you need to stop and see York for the walls and cathedral. Plus the national rail museum is there. Durham is awesome for a quick stop to see the Cathedral.

Our flights are set. Arriving into London, leaving from Dublin.
I might fly from Edinburgh to Dublin and spend a few days in/around Dublin before coming home.

I'll second Salisbury Plain and Avebury. Stonehenge wasn't much other than a tick off the tourist list, but the surrounding country is stunning.

Salisbury Cathedral is beautiful.
