Great board games?

Please, no recommendations for games you know everybody has heard of. I'm looking for more-obscure and overlooked games.

Thanks.

the 80s game. (the manufacturers also market the 70s game and the 90s game.)

SET (but that's not really a board game. more of a mind game that's new and fun)

apples to apples (again, not a board game, but a very cool game for a lot of people -- adults included -- to play together)

Axis & Allies for a quick simple wargame that your friends can get into without being 'wargamers'

Diplomacy (warning, if you play this right, your friends will all hate each other by the end of the night).

Risk2210 - Risk + The Moon

Settlers of Catan

Stratego

i was going to suggest stratego, but i think it's pretty well known. is it not?

Yeah, I think both of those are. I was just going to let it slide, though, because I get the feeling a lot of people are going to suggest games most people already know.

Like that Trouble post...

Although I wouldn't call A&A quick (always takes us a MINIMUM of three hours), it is certainly an excellent game. The others you recommended are good, too. Although Risk 2210 < the others.

It's quite quick relative to this

Diplomacy is a great game. Think of it like Risk. Except with no dice...so no luck is really involved. The only bad thing is that you need a lot of time, and seven people. You can play with less but its not as much fun. We used to play over lunch at work (nerds) and it took a few weeks to play.

You basically strategise and form alliances, and then of course stab each other in the back. (There are shorter versions of the game, I've only played it once)
Really great game.

If you like card games. Check out lunch money, and bohnanza.

Now THIS is the kind of game I'm looking for. Completely unheard of but full of potential. It looks like it could be a blast if I got enough people together.

Let me put it this way, a friend and I were playing for most of a semester on year and did not finish a game. Mind you, we only played on saturdays.
