I'm doing a couple nights of the 12-8:30am thing and it's crap. I can't sleep during the day and am completely fried at night.

I'm glad this is my last one!

I'm going to bail out early. Too tired to stick until 8:30. But I'm salary so as long as I do 2 hrs, I get paid for the whole day.

:p

Depends on the person. I've worked midnight to 9am and 11pm to 7am. It doesn't much matter to me when I'm sleeping, I just follow the same sort of schedule that I would for a regular job.

I have to disagree. I work midnight-8:00am and I love it. I get to work by myself without having to make small talk with co-workers, having people looking over my shoulder, and doggone it, if I happen to get an itch that needs a scratch I don't have to worry about who might see me.

I work 9pm to 7am M-F. It sucks ass. I'm missing out on enjoying my life and it's making me a complete and total emotional wreck. I've promised to myself that if I'm still working this job at the end of August and I'm close to having a better job in my career field, I'm just going to flat out quit and hope for the best.

I would rather flip burgers and struggle to make ends meet than work this job/shift.

I should try a graveyard shift. I think I could take it.

Years ago, a company hired me specifically to run the graveyard shift. I also had problems sleeping in the daytime (I still do).

Even worse was having the company calling me in for a 1:00 P.M. meeting.

I worked 11 years 11:00PM to 7:00 AM and the only good part was I didn't have to buy as much dope because you "felt" stoned all the time :)

Been working 12-8 from a few years now. It sucks because you don't know when to sleep, some days its right when you get home, others is at evening time. I work 10 days on 4 off, so I don't have to switch back and forth as often. I feel like a slug most of the time.

Me too.

I miss my 9pm-7am 10-hour shift, where I only work maybe 3 hours and try to stay awake the remaining 7, but get paid for all 10. I worked 4-on 3-off so on the weekend my hours were reversed, and it was a b1tch to get back into it on Monday nights.

I work 11p-7:30a at a hospital. A lot of nights are slow, so that's nice. When the bad nights hit, though, God help us. Those suck. Sometimes I can't sleep at all during the day and I end up a zombie-man at work. Overall, it's not too bad.

!!!!!

What job is this? It sounds quite excellent.
I would so love a place without small talk. If you're not going to say anything of any consequence whatsoever, or worse, if it's just the same damn thing every day, then why bother saying anything?
"How you doing?"
No one really gives a damn about how you're doing. Your entire family might have just died of ebola, and your dog was eaten by your pet snake which then wandered into traffic and was killed. But you just say "fine" so that you don't have to be bothered to explain all of this. So the question is pointless anyway, so don't ask it!

I worked crappy hours for 13 months, hated it with a passion. I'm doing 8am-5pm's right now and love it.
